Favorite Hallmark Christmas Movies

Favorite Hallmark Christmas Movies

BY: Molly Gray If you did not already know, the Hallmark Channel is already playing their new Christmas movies, as well as the classic ones that we all know and love. As usual, they have two channels where you can watch these movies. The first one is Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, which plays what I call the “sad movies.” Truthfully, they are the movies that are very heartwarming. The other is the Hallmark Channel, which plays movies that can be considered romantic comedies. Hallmark has something for everyone this Christmas season. Here’s what I found to be some favorite Hallmark…

The History of Christmas Trees

The History of Christmas Trees

BY: Molly Gray It is getting close to the time of year in which you will start putting up your Christmas tree to get you in the Christmas spirit. One thing you probably do not do is wonder where the Christmas tree tradition started. The fact is that there are many different theories about Christmas tree origins. Here is the history of Christmas trees. Evergreen trees were used for many years by Pagans to celebrate winter festivals. Some would even use the branches to decorate their homes for the winter solstice. Though the official time period when Fir trees were…

A Warhawk’s Winter Break

A Warhawk’s Winter Break

BY: Anthony Flournoy School can be very stressful for students, but sometimes self-reflection can help de-stress. Self-reflection can involve congratulating yourself on another successful semester in your college career, or maybe looking back on your previous work and focus on enhancing certain skills. This gives students time to analyze themselves and work on shortcomings.  The semester is finally coming to an end, and Winter Break is approaching. Even though the upcoming break could be boring, there are many things you can do throughout the break to stay productive. You could obtain a temporary job, volunteer, spend time with family, or…

Keeping Up Your Diet Through the Holidays

Keeping Up Your Diet Through the Holidays

BY: Caitlin Gallagher The holidays. If you’re like me, you start thinking about turkeys and hams and all the fixings around August. In my humble opinion, the holidays are the best part of the year. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the cherry on top of the green and red cornucopia: New Years. Sometimes, though, we tend to compromise our diets and healthy living for the two-month celebration. We say that we’ll just splurge for the one day and hop back on the healthy train as soon as the day is done. However, falling off the wagon for one day can set back…

BY: Brandon Barker This past October, AMC Theatres began a new subscription service that is set to battle top on-demand streaming platforms like Google Play and iTunes. With thousands of titles available to the customer, AMC is definitely a go-to entertainment company.  AMC is the world’s largest theatre chain and wants to expand its reach to more consumers. AUM Men’s Basketball vs. Florida Tech University

AUM Men’s Basketball vs. Florida Tech University

BY: Randy Dunn After an unfortunate loss the night before, the Warhawks were back in action on Saturday afternoon against the Panthers of Florida Tech. This was only the second meeting of the two schools— the Warhawks won the previous matchup in 2018 (71-65). Knowing they let their first game slip away, the Warhawks hit the floor running against the Panthers. Senior guard #5 Carlos Bell put the team up 21 points while adding five rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal. On top of his stellar play, other solid players like junior guard #2 Darrion Taylor added 10…

AUM Men’s Basketball vs. Rollins College

BY: Randy Dunn AUM’s men’s basketball team kicked off their 2019 season against the Tars of Rollins College. The gymnasium went into an uproar as the Warhawks took the court and formed their pre-game lay-up line, and as the shot clock wound down, the excitement continued to grow. This was the second matchup between the Warhawks and the Tars— in 2018, the Tars defeated AUM (86-76). The Warhawks started the first half off strong, putting up 32 points up to Rollins’ 26, with a strong showing from senior Darrion Taylor (19 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds) and redshirt junior…

Buying Christmas Presents on a Budget

BY: Allison Stewart As “Jingle Bells” begins playing on the radio, Christmas shopping begins. The list of people you need to buy presents for usually grows quicker than expected. You may think your wallet will slowly lose it’s jingle — it does not have to, though.  No matter how long your list may be, there are ways to ensure you get the perfect presents without breaking the bank. It all begins with comparing your options.  It also helps to group people who are associated with you in similar ways. You can organize it by how much you are willing to…

More Money, More Problems: Unethical Monetization in Video Games

More Money, More Problems: Unethical Monetization in Video Games

BY: Cory Donde Most Millennials remember a time when new games came out for $40, and we became outraged when the price was raised to $60. Now, we wish that the $60 dollar price tag was all we had to pay for a full game. Due to game developers and publishers becoming increasingly greedy, more monetization methods are being implemented into games, and most people who play games now eat up the opportunity to gain more content, even if it eats into their wallets. Whenever we log in to our favorite recent releases, we're introduced to storefronts full of premium…

The Phoenix of Video Game Development: Hideo Kojima

BY: Cory Donde One of the most well-known names in the video game industry, Hideo Kojima, made his mark through both innovation and ground-breaking storylines. Best known for the Metal Gear franchise, Kojima first made his mark with the first game in the series, Metal Gear  for the MSX 2, which was released on July 17, 1987. The game originally was set to be an action-adventure game, but due to the technological restraints of the console, only two to three enemies could appear on the screen at the same time, which slowed down the pacing that Konami wanted. To combat…

Coffee Shop Spots for Finals

BY: Allison Stewart As the semester approaches the end, finals are slowly emerging. May the coffee start brewing. The end of the semester presents mixed emotions. There is excitement for the semester to be over, but there’s also anxiety for remaining assignments.  If you are anything like me, even thinking about my to-do list is sure to raise my blood pressure. However, preparation is key to having a successful end to the semester. Choosing the right environment to do your work in is also important.  Coffee shops are common places to find people working on homework. With their relaxing music,…

For this next production, Theatre AUM will present their production of The Seagull by Anton Chekhov translated by Christopher Hampton on November 7.  I visited the set, and it looks fantastic. Sources say that the costumes are elaborate for such a period piece. The students who are participating in the production have been working hard to bring this show to life for AUM and the community. Is the Café Good? Survey Says…

BY: Anonymous There are a few things that can make or break a college student’s campus life. Having a social group, events to go to and meet new people, and places to hang out at are all important. However, one of the most critical things in our lives at this point is simply food. It’s where most of our money goes and what we’re getting between classes. Hell, the main reason we go to campus events is to simply eat and leave (you’re not the only one, we all do it). It only makes sense that the cafeteria plays a…

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Review

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Review

BY: Caitlin Gallagher Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, like its predecessor, gives us a side to the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty that we didn’t know before. The film starts with a focus on the newly engaged couple, Aurora and Prince Phillip. With a deep desire to unify their two kingdoms—The Moors and Ulstead—soon betrayal and deceit looms like a dark cloud over their plans and rips through each of their families. Once more, Angelina Jolie delivers a cunning performance as Maleficent. Riddled with sly and witty one-liners, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil delves deeper into her ancestry and we begin to…
