BY: Evan Justice Despite some cites loosening their COVID-19 restrictions, many movie theaters are still struggling to stay open.  Photo of a Regal Movie Theatre provided by Deadline.com. Recently, Regal Cinemas announced that it would shut down more than 7,000 movie screens across its 536 locations in the United States due to financial concerns. Despite being the second-largest film distributor in the United States, Regal was forced to close its doors for the second time less than two months after reopening. The move to reclose came after it was announced that the next installment in the James Bond franchise, entitled No Time to Die, would be delayed until 2021. Regal Cinemas’ UK-based parent company, Cineworld, was also forced to close more than 100 theaters. Almost 40,...

Things To Watch On Netflix During Quarantine That Will Make You Laugh

BY: Justin Hicks During these dark times, we all need something light-hearted to brighten up our day.  Since we have to stay inside, the activities we can do are limited. As a result, streaming sites like Netflix have become more and more popular. I have come up with a list of three shows that are entertaining and will generate a laugh during these hard times. Tiger King Tiger King is a docu-series released on March 20, 2020 that focuses on Joe Exotic. Exotic is a collector of big cats that he keeps in his zoo in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. The series looks at all aspects of his life from his cats to his arrest. You are immersed into a train wreck that you just cannot look away from. Disney Pixar Changing the Family Dynamic of Their Films

BY: Caitlin Gallagher This article contains spoilers for the movie Onward. Disney Pixar rushed the release of Onward to Disney+ due to the worldwide CoVid-19 pandemic, and I’ve watched it several times already. I was so impressed. I have cried, I have laughed, and I have related to it. It really is a heart-warming movie about love, magic, wonder, redemption, trust, family, faith, and sacrifice.  What really caught my attention, though, was how Pixar shows the different family dynamics, challenges, and ailments that are relatable to kids and adults today. This film is filled with hard-hitting personal challenges that could prepare children for real issues raised in society.  The story is centered around a young boy, Ian, and his older brother, Barley. Ian was not even born...

Favorite Hallmark Christmas Movies

BY: Molly Gray If you did not already know, the Hallmark Channel is already playing their new Christmas movies, as well as the classic ones that we all know and love. As usual, they have two channels where you can watch these movies. The first one is Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, which plays what I call the “sad movies.” Truthfully, they are the movies that are very heartwarming. The other is the Hallmark Channel, which plays movies that can be considered romantic comedies. Hallmark has something for everyone this Christmas season. Here’s what I found to be some favorite Hallmark movies. Ashley Taylor, AUM student and Hallmark Christmas movie-lover, says that her favorite new Hallmark Christmas movie so far is Merry and Bright. This movie has Jodie Sweetin (Full House) and Andrew W...

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Review

BY: Caitlin Gallagher Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, like its predecessor, gives us a side to the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty that we didn’t know before. The film starts with a focus on the newly engaged couple, Aurora and Prince Phillip. With a deep desire to unify their two kingdoms—The Moors and Ulstead—soon betrayal and deceit looms like a dark cloud over their plans and rips through each of their families. Once more, Angelina Jolie delivers a cunning performance as Maleficent. Riddled with sly and witty one-liners, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil delves deeper into her ancestry and we begin to see a more sensitive side of her.  When Queen Ingrith, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, shows what evil truly is as she concocts a plan to destroy Maleficent, a fatal confrontation bet...

Movie Review: The Addams Family

BY: Molly Gray The Addams Family is something that most of us grew up watching. Therefore, we have a good idea of what we envision the Addams family looks like and acts like. I was excited to see this new version to see how they would change the story or how the family acted or looked. Here are my thoughts on this new movie. I really liked how you could easily tell which animated character went with the live version that many of us have seen. Morticia was tall and slender. Gomez had the iconic black hair and mustache. Wednesday had her dark hair in the familiar pigtails. Pugsley was the only one with light-colored hair. I will say that I did not like how Gomez was larger in size than what I am use to seeing. Wednesday’s head was also a strange shape, but I believe that it went with...
