AMC Offers New Subscription Service

BY: Brandon Barker

This past October, AMC Theatres began a new subscription service that is set to battle top on-demand streaming platforms like Google Play and iTunes. With thousands of titles available to the customer, AMC is definitely a go-to entertainment company.

AMC is the world’s largest theatre chain and wants to expand its reach to more consumers. Starting a new service with customers already familiar with their brand is a huge advantage because they have access to their information. AMC will offer over 2000 titles, with new ones added every month just like Amazon and other streaming companies. As of right now, you can access these on Smart TVs, Rokus, or the company’s website. Signing up with them automatically makes you a part of AMC Stubs, which is their rewards program that has benefits associated with the more money you spend with them.

AMC already has deals with numerous companies and movie theatre chains to play their movies as well. Rentals for movies will be between $3-$5.99, and movie purchases will cost $9.99-$19.99, depending on how new or popular the movie is. The hardest part about this new venture for AMC is taking rival companies’ business and making customers switch to this new service. AMC can offer special benefits when new movies come to theatres, like free popcorn and drinks, to help with this. Discounted ticket prices and the ability to get them in advance are a huge plus for the company that no others can offer.

According to Statista.com, more than 1.3 billion tickets were sold in 2018, and AMC looks to add to these box office sales. With all the other entertainment and VOD services coming, AMC has one thing on their side: They do not specialize in any other form of entertainment besides movies, so they can focus on distributing those movies.
