Concussion Protocols

By: Van Cathcart III PICTURE CREDITS: Bleacher Report Recently the National Football League (NFL) has fallen under major scrutiny for player safety. Head trauma is something that has been in conversation and associated with the sport for many years and is getting to the point where not much can be done but dissolve the sport altogether. Injuries are a part of any sport, especially when playing at the level that professional athletes do. However, head and neck injuries are something more severe than anything else that could happen. These injuries can have several side effects including paralyzing players and even death. Concussion protocols and new rules are being implemented to better protect players better than before. These head injuries are something rather new and have been ad...

Super Bowl Aftermath

BY: Milton Westry February 13 was an exciting event for NFL fans: Superbowl 56. The game featured two underdogs in playoffs battling for the Lombardi trophy: the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. It also featured new commercials and a halftime music performance. The halftime performance included Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. This game was played in the L.A. Rams stadium. The game was close and competitive. The game ended in the home favorites, the L.A. Rams, winning by a score of 23-20. This is the second time that a team has won the Super Bowl in their home stadium. Last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won on their home turf, beating the Kansas City Chiefs.  The L.A. Rams scored the first two touchdowns of the game, with ...

Get Ready for Super Bowl LVI

BY: Milton Westry In less than two weeks, Super Bowl LVI will take place. The date of the Super Bowl is February 13, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. CT. The teams that will be playing are the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams, and the game will be played in Los Angeles, California. The halftime performance will feature Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige. This year’s Super Bowl was unexpected, as many people didn’t predict that these two teams would be competing for a title for their franchise because of their seeding coming into the playoffs. This Super Bowl will be the lowest-seeded matchup in NFL history.  Both teams faced a tough road to get to the Super Bowl and had to play in Wild Card games. The games that took place during the past couple of weeks were very c...

Super Bowl LV Pre-Game Breakdown

BY: Randy Dunn When it comes to the NFL, the Super Bowl is the pinnacle of all games. This year, we are seeing two familiar faces take the field to win a ring. We have  Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (14-2) facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (11-5), led by six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. The difference in this year's game is that the Bucs will be hosting for the fifth time in team history, and this will be their third time inside of Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.  This game will decide one of two things: whether Patrick Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks to throw a football with a Super Bowl win over Tom Brady or if Brady will continue to solidify the title of “GOAT”(Greatest of All Time). At 43, Brady doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowi...

Auburn Football Starts Sept. 26; Who Will Be in the Stands?

BY: Kameron Berry For countless years Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium has held roughly 87,000 screaming fans, but due to COVID-19 Auburn has announced it will only allow 20% capacity inside for this upcoming football season. In accordance with the Southeastern Conference’s (SEC) safety guidelines, Auburn has decided that tickets outside of premium seating and tickets designated for home and visiting team coach and player guests will go to the Auburn students for their Sept. 26 game against Kentucky. I spoke with Auburn student Daniel Richardson, who is a part of the Auburn University Athletic’s grounds crew that works on Pat Dye Field. Richardson said, “ I think it’s great that the university decided to give the tickets to the students, we only have a limited amount of time here a...

Based on the NFL draft order, the first pick is projected to go to the Cincinnati Bengals. They are expected to draft Joe Burrow, former quarterback for the LSU Tigers. Many teams are moving up in the draft to take a quarterback, so it is not guaranteed t...
