AUM Men’s Basketball vs. Florida Tech University

BY: Randy Dunn

After an unfortunate loss the night before, the Warhawks were back in action on Saturday afternoon against the Panthers of Florida Tech. This was only the second meeting of the two schools— the Warhawks won the previous matchup in 2018 (71-65). Knowing they let their first game slip away, the Warhawks hit the floor running against the Panthers. Senior guard #5 Carlos Bell put the team up 21 points while adding five rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal. On top of his stellar play, other solid players like junior guard #2 Darrion Taylor added 10 assists and nine points. The big man protecting the paint, junior center #31 Aaron Reddick, had a quite an opening night and helped his squad by putting up 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Warhawks had a solid first half, leading 49-40, but the Panthers came out in the second half with a defensive performance that rattled the Warhawks and caused 20 turnovers. AUM’s Coach Cheaney rallied his guys around each other, and they continued to fight off the Panthers comeback with just enough defense to hold off Florida Tech 88-84. It wasn’t an easy win, but games like this will give the Warhawks something to go back to and prepare themselves for their season.
