Brain Food

Brain Food

BY: Caitlin Gallagher There are only two months left in the semester. That means two months to buckle down and get those big projects done and exams studied for. I know as well as anybody that it can be taxing to sit down and study or do homework. There’s always something else that we’d rather be doing, or we might get distracted by the T.V. or our phones.  Did you know that there are certain foods that we can consume to help boost our brain functions? Our brains are made up mostly of fats, so it makes sense to consume…

Gaining Experience with AUM Athletics as a Student Worker

Gaining Experience with AUM Athletics as a Student Worker

BY: Randy Dunn AUM gives its students opportunities to gain experience in their field and put money in their pockets as student workers. I am the announcer for AUM volleyball and soon to be basketball, and it’s giving me early experience in the analyst and announcer field of my job, which I intend to pursue once I graduate from AUM.     On top of giving me experience and money, this position brings me closer to the fans and AUM. Now when I walk around campus, I get random people asking me, “Hey are you the volleyball announcer?” and with a small…

Time will show the course of how some people are seasonal. The company that you keep is very important because he people you allow into your life can be detrimental to your health.  When forming new friendships, or even relationships, begin watch for red flags that can show up. Halloween Happenings

Halloween Happenings

BY: Caitlin Gallagher Happy Fall, Y’all! It might feel like we are still in the middle of August, but it is officially Spooky Season. October is the month for pumpkins, haunts, and hayrides. Luckily for us, there’s no shortage of any of those in Alabama.  If horror is what you prefer, I’ve got a list of hauntingly good attractions that are sure to “creep” it real. Although there aren’t any haunted houses here in Montgomery, Paintball on 111 is one of the closest fright-fests for the Halloween season. Located in Holtville, about 25 miles from AUM, they are offering a…

Your mental and physical health could be suffering. Northwestern Medicine compiled a list of negative effects of binge-watching that include: a “drug-like high”, isolation, insomnia, anxiety and depression, back pain, weight gain and risk of heart disease. Some of these may seem really…

Joker Review: A Dark Descent Into Madness

Joker Review: A Dark Descent Into Madness

BY: Cory Donde Anyone who knows Batman knows that the Joker is his iconic main antagonist. There have been several films with different interpretations of the demented clown, but Jaoquin Phoenix has set a new precedent on just how dark the character can be. Although the film is technically a DC Comics film, the first three quarters of the film revolve more on the character of Arthur Fleck than the Joker alter ego  he ends up adopting. It's a true showcase of a man who has serious mental disabilities that end up being neglected by Gotham and even ridiculed by…

Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween Safety Tips

BY: Allison Singleterry Halloween is less than two weeks away, and there are many ways to help everyone have a safe experience.  When dressing up for Halloween, make sure kids are wearing something bright, or incorporate reflective tape so people who are driving in the neighborhoods are able to spot them quickly. It’s also a good idea to make sure not to have really long dresses or things like long sticks or swords where kids can get hit or trip over things easily.  Make sure to go trick-or-treating in an area or neighborhood you are familiar with. You should stay…
