Emma Webster, a sophomore on the Auburn University Montgomery Women’s Soccer team, said her inspiration comes from Alex Morgan, a professional soccer player, and her parents.   In a recent interview, Webster talked about how her parents were her biggest inspiration. Finding balance: How AUM student-athletes deal with it all

Photo Courtesy of AUM Athletics By: Jordan White MONTGOMERY, Ala. –– Student-athletes have two sides to themselves just like a coin. Being the same person, but having to flip perspectives between school sports and their social life can be challenging. Auburn University of Montgomery (AUM) junior soccer player Lauren Akemon gave helpful insight into the dedication it takes to be a student-athlete. Her friendly attitude is matched by how determined she is on the field. According to the AUM Athletics website in 2022, Akemon helped AUM earn a draw with Lady Flames playing 477 total minutes on the year. She previously went to Reinhardt University in Georgia before finding a home at AUM. The transition from one state to another was not hard because of the previous school she went...

Take In Every Moment

BY: Hannah Long COVID-19 has impacted everyone’s lives. For AUM Women’s Soccer, it has impacted their season.  The team plays roughly 17 games each season, and more if they make it to the GSC tournament. During this season, the Lady Warhawks were allowed only six conference games with a one-game guarantee in the playoff tournament. This is not a way the seniors wanted to end their season.  Senior Ali Brewer spoke with me about her senior year and how she wishes things were different. “Yes we are lucky to even have a season, but with only playing six games it is like we didn’t even get one,” Brewer said. “We do get an extra year, which is nice, but for me and some other seniors, we won’t take it because we are graduating and starting our careers.”  The Lady Warhawks pl...

AUM vs. Montevallo Recap

BY: Allison Singleterry Auburn University at Montgomery men’s soccer team is now 3rd in the Gulf South Conference standings after beating University of Montevallo in a rematch on Tuesday. They now have a conference record of 4-0-2. Montevallo is currently ranked eighth in the GSC standings and has a conference record of 3-3. AUM originally played Montevallo on Oct. 18. Montevallo was up 2-1 and just after halftime, one of the lights on AUM’s field cut out. Regulation requires the whole field to be properly lit for the entire duration of the game. After waiting about an hour, they decided to reschedule the game for Oct. 22. Brazilian Junior, Lucas Batistela, scored with 38 seconds left in the match for a 1-0 win over Montevallo. AUM outshot Montevallo 19 to five. Seven of those sh...

AUM Women’s Soccer

BY: Randy Dunn    Soccer is a sport in which everyone must be in one accord to accomplish the same goal, which is to win. Unfortunately for AUM’s women’s soccer team, they are having trouble putting together a complete game. So far this year, the Lady Warhawks have mustard up just one win, which leaves them sitting with an overall record of 1-11 and  a conference record of 1-6 (0-6 at home and 1-5 away.) Although the record doesn’t show exactly great play, there are a couple of bright spots to look forward to.     Out of 23 total players, 16 are underclassmen, which gives them time to develop and learn the system better so they all can add a dynamic role to the team as the seasons to come. There is a positive outlook when it comes to players l...
