AUM gives its students opportunities to gain experience in their field and put money in their pockets as student workers. I am the announcer for AUM volleyball and soon to be basketball, and it’s giving me early experience in the analyst and announcer field of my job, which I intend to pursue once I graduate from AUM.
On top of giving me experience and money, this position brings me closer to the fans and AUM. Now when I walk around campus, I get random people asking me, “Hey are you the volleyball announcer?” and with a small smile I embrace it and say, “Yes I am.” It makes me feel good because I put a lot of energy into keeping the gymnasium energetic and entertained. Also, I’ve learned the game of volleyball to where now I can talk to others about it. Because before getting this job, I barely knew anything about volleyball.
If I could give advice to any student that’s interested in working with the Athletic Department I would tell them to take the opportunity and learn as much as they can , because in the end it will help them once their time at AUM is complete, and they will be ahead of the game.
