Warhawks men’s baseball is back

Photo courtesy of AUM Athletics By: Tasker Wheeler MONTGOMERY, Ala. —The Auburn University at Montgomery men’s baseball started their season back at Southard Stadium in Saint Leo, Florida where they played a doubleheader. The first two games AUM came up short and lost 2-10 and 1-3 and ended strong with a 13-3 win.  (AUM Athletics, Matthew Del Sol) The Warhawks last season was 19-31 and will look to improve and push to win the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Championship. It is junior Matthew Del Sol’s first season here at AUM. The second baseman from Elizabeth, New Jersey was asked some questions. From balancing course work, pressure and expectations from family and trying to maintain a social life, the pressures can become overwhelming many college students.  According to the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments annual survey conducted in the 2021-2022 school year, 44% of college students reported symptoms of depression; 37% said they experienced anxiety and 15% have seriously considered suicide. Photo Courtesy of AUM Athletics AUM volleyball player Myllena Torquetti says follow your heart By: Alexis Stafford MONTGOMERY, Ala.— AUM junior Myllena Torquetti, a volleyball player from Brazil, gavesome insight as to what her daily routine looks like as a student-athlete. Her training begins with a workout in the Wellness Center from 8-9 a.m., and after classes she ends with practice in the gym from 4:30-7 p.m. Torquetti says these tough practices usually consist of “a lot of reps of swinging, blocking, passing [and other] volleyball movements.” Torquetti’s stats prove thepractices are valuable as her season highs consist of nine total blocks and 16 points against LeeUniversity last Friday. BY: Kory Hobbs Auburn University at Montgomery is currently home to over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The campus sits on a beautiful 500-acre lot on the eastern side of Montgomery. The success of the university and campus would not have been possible if it wasn’t for what unfolded in the late 1960’s. On a quest to expand higher education within the city of Montgomery, Charles Brightwell, the president of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce looked around the city for the best candidates. The University of Alabama had an educational building near Maxwell Airforce Base off Bell Street that seemed like a logical place for Brightwell to begin his pursuit.
