The 14th ranked Auburn University at Montgomery Men’s Soccer team clinched a share of the Gulf South Conference championship after a 1-0 win over the Union University Bulldogs last Friday in Jackson, TN.

“Feels amazing to win the regular season. Can’t thank these lads enough for all of the work they have put in. Not just the lads from this season, this was something that was built over the last few years,” said head coach Mathew Thorne.  “We said in the very first meeting, we want to win the GSC. This is phase one of what we want to achieve this year.”

The game was scoreless for most of the game until junior left wing Nathan Le Roux hit the only goal of the game at 81:08 mark to give the Warhawks the win and their share of the GSC title.

Throne added on about the accomplishment saying “Absolutely so proud of how the lads worked together. We had some adversity over the last few weeks, but we showed a lot of bottle to go out there tonight and make sure we got ourselves the regular season championship.”

AUM enters the GSC tournament as co-conference champions and the second seed thanks to finishing the season tied with Trevecca Nazarene but losing the only head-to-head game against the Trojans 3-0 on Oct. 17.

The Warhawks also enters postseason play at #14 nationally and second in the South Region while finishing the regular season at 10-2-3 and 7-1-2 in GSC play.

The Warhawks will host Christian Brothers at the AUM Soccer Stadium Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the tournament. AUM beat the Buccaneers 1-0 in their only meeting back on Sept. 19.

If the Warhawks win, they will travel to Huntsville to take on the winner of the Alabama-Huntsville and West Alabama game on Thursday Nov. 5 at the Spencer Sports Complex.
