The students section comes alive during the dunk contest at AUM’s annual Hoops madness on Oct. 21, 2026 at the AUM Athletics Complex
The Auburn University at Montgomery men’s and women’s basketball team opened the doors to the 2026-27 season with their annual Hoops Madness event at the AUM Athletics complex on Wednesday night.
From three point contests to the Talons, the AUM Dance Team, the night was full of energy from start to finish.

The night started by welcoming the women Warhawks to the court with dimmed lights and the roar of the crowd. They started the night off a two round three-point contest.
As the women finished up, the men’s team was welcomed with the same intensity with a dunk contest as their inter-squad competition which ended with junior forward Elahi Akida winning.
Lastly came the knockout challenge in which students were called down to take on each other. The rules were simple, shoot in a line and if the person behind you in line hit a bucket before you, you were knocked out.
First year men’s coach Anthony Komara said in a closing word for the event saying he wants people there. “We need this gym to look like this in November, December, January, February and March.”
Women’s coach Ashlee’ Phillips followed that up with a simple “Thanks for coming out.”
The men will start the season on Monday, Nov. 9 on the road at Columbus State with their home opener being on Nov. 18 against Georgia Southern-East.
The women’s season will also open the year on Nov. 9 but they will do so at home against Shorter at 5 p.m.
