Top 5 Songs of Summer 2018

This past summer has been nothing but good music. The summer of 2018 has come to a close and the list of top songs for the summer has been released. These songs gave us the right type of vibe for the summer. The Billboards chart for the summer of 2018 consists of:

  1. Drake- In My Feelings: Drake really had every one in their feelings this summer. This song was so popular that there was even a challenge to go along with the song. Instagram sensation Shiggy created the #InMyFeelingsChallenge or it has known to be #DoTheShiggy. The challenge went viral. Everyone from television hosts to celebrities were a part of this craze. We may never know if Kiki truly loved Drake.
  2. Cardi B featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin- I Like It: Cardi B is the hot new female rapper that is taking the world by storm. I Like It was one of Cardi’s top songs on her new album ‘Invasion of Privacy.’ I Like It is eligible to become 5x platinum in the US according to Chart Data. The song has a Latin crossed with reggaeton mixed vibes. Bad Bunny and J Balvin bring the Latin sauce to the new rapper’s song. It’s the right type of song to get the party started
  3. Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B- Girls Like You: With Cardi B blazing the trails in the industry Maroon 5 jumped at the opportunity to have her on their song Girls Like You. The video for Girls Like You catered to acknowledging different types of women from different backgrounds and different cultures. The video featured several celebrities like Ellen, J.Lo, and Tiffany Haddish.
  4. Drake- Nice for What:  Drake’s album ‘Scorpion’ had multiple hits and Nice For What was no exception. Nice for what also had a Lauryn Hill sample, “You said you’d die for me/Why won’t you live for me?” from her own song Ex-factor. The song has a New Orleans bounce but along the lines of and old school RnB feel to the song. The music video was star studded with powerful women like Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, Issa Rae, Rashida Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Yara Shahidi are some of the women to make an appearance in the video.
  5. Juice WRLD- Lucid Dreams: Juice Wrld is one of the new rap artist that started from SoundCloud (music streaming service). His song ‘Lucid Dreams’ has around 97.2 million plays on SoundCloud. Emo rapping is starting to make its way into main stream media. This is a true heartbreak song that grabs your attention with a mid-tempo beat and easy to remember lyrics. It is true enough to put you through a heartbreak even if you have not been in one.

These top five songs blazed the charts this summer. The summer vibes from these songs has left people wanting more from Hopefully there will be an award headed to these artists. Their hard work has been paid off.
