The Best Halloween Movies

BY: Kaleria Jackson It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s not Christmas, just yet. It’s Halloween the time of the year where you can dress up in as your favorite character. The time where receiving candy from strangers is acceptable. Just like Christmas, I love the special movies that come along with the holiday. Everyone has their own top picks for which Halloween movie is the best. These picks will not include scary movies since I do not watch scary movies. With that being acknowledged here are my top picks for best Halloween movies. Hocus Pocus Hocus Pocus is sure enough the best Halloween movie. This movie has given the public exactly what we needed. For instance, the song “I Put A Spell On You” is a timely classic. The song is a nothing short of a ‘bop’. Then, you ha...

My Summer Working In the Professional World

BY: Brittany Vallely If you told me a year ago that I would be working at a professional theatre in New York for the summer I would not have believed you. However, when I received a job offer from The Gateway Playhouse for a carpentry apprenticeship I knew I could not pass up the opportunity. I applied for the job at the Southern Eastern Theatre Conference (SETC) last March, where professional theatre companies from all over the country look for technicians. Since I am theatre major and have worked on set construction while in college, I figured this would be a good idea to get more experience before I graduate. Going to a job fair alone was intense because I had no idea what kind of questions I was going to be asked, and most of the people that were also applying looked more expe...

Female Voices in Theatre

BY: Olivia Crutchfield Theatre AUM’s first production of the 2018-2019 season is in full swing, and like previous years it’s being kicked off with a showcase. The showcases are a compilation of scenes and monologues from various plays all regarding a certain theme. This years’ showcase is showcasing monologues and scenes all written by women; Female Voices. The underrepresentation of women is evident in many industries, and unfortunately theatre is an industry where women have also been forgotten or completely misrepresented in works. Studies and numbers can clearly show how great the gap is between men and women. Although these numbers can be powerful in themselves, when you’re in the industry, even a small portion of it, you understand how women are often forgotten or written as ch...

Making the Grade!

BY: D’Cara Hood Have you ever wondered what hard work looks like? What continuous all-nighters, one million late night Starbucks runs, and countless cups of noodles equals? That my friends is the dean’s list. The dean’s list is a familiar term to college and university students all over. The dean’s list, is an academic award or notation used to recognize the highest level of scholarship. When you have worked so hard throughout the semester to maintain your sanity, while also trying to have a social life. To receive that letter in the mail that could come to you as a surprise. In my case it was a total shocker, but worth the wait yes it was. Here are my top three reasons why making the dean’s list should be on your collegiate bucket list. Reason one: It gives you a sense of persona...

Words from Audrey Hepburn | Another Side to the Beloved Icon

BY: Chelsea Bassett Twenty-five years ago this world lost a beloved icon and true cinematic legend, Audrey Hepburn. However, Hepburn was much more than a beautiful face with a successful acting career. Very few know about the other side to Audrey Hepburn, the side that was just as true as you and me. Hepburn was a kind and truly sincere soul that was actually a huge humanitarian. She often spoke about how we should love others and be kind to everyone in her interviews. One of her most famous quotes was, “People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.” So, to celebrate her on this twenty-fifth year of her passing, I believe we should learn not from her successful business career, but rather her humble life lived off ...

Since this addition is still in a trial period, it is unclear if it will be released publicly. Within the trial, Instagram is helping group together...

Editorial: The Purpose of Internships

Internships are preparations for the real job. The purpose of the internship is to gain experience. A lot of times “real” jobs require some type of experience as their qualifications. Some majors request an internship at Auburn University of Montgomery (AUM). Speaking from my own experience, my internship was the best job I have ever had in my life. I fully enjoyed my internship because it really has prepared me for a job. I actually got the full experience for my major/degree. Having my internship also prepped me for what attire to wear on different occasions. Every day we dress professionally, meeting days we all wear suits, and days we are off campus we dress professionally but comfortably. Once my boss figured that I was about to graduate, he wrote a recommendation letter and start ...
