AUM Volleyball vs West Georgia

BY: Brandon Barker

AUM battled against University of West Georgia this past Saturday but fell short. This (3-0) loss ended the Warhawks’ three-game winning streak. This road test proved to be one of AUM’s toughest matchups so far.

The West Georgia Wolves are currently (9-7) and undefeated in the Gulf South Conference, with a record of (4-1) at home and a (3-4) record at neutral locations. The Wolves hit .227 on the day, with a dominant performance from one of their freshman. UWG held the Warhawks to a .120 hitting percentage, which led to an easy match win.

AUM’s conference record is now (3-2), and the Warhawks hope to improve that in the coming week. Even with the loss, there were some standout performers from the game: outside hitter Dariona Dash and setter Isadora Nicolai, with Senior Sommer Rhea leading the Warhawks in a tough loss.

The first two sets were one-sided in West Georgia’s favor, but the last set was the toughest one. There was back-and-forth action all set with one team not gaining much of a lead over each other, although the Wolves came out with a (26-24) set win.

The Warhawks have a couple of games coming up before the annual SSC/GSC crossover tournament. This will be against the Sunshine State Conference–  games will be announced at a later date.
