Full Moon BBQ on 7660 Eastchase Pkwy in Montgomery is often called “The Best Little Pork House in Alabama” and it more than lives up to the name.

When you first walk into the brightly decorated restaurant, you’re greeted by sights and memories of this state’s biggest prides, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers.
On one side of the dining area, you’ll see pictures, jerseys and signatures of Tide moments and legends such as Joe Namath, Bart Starr, Julio Jones, and many more. The other half pays respect to the Tigers in a similar way with Bo Jackson, Pat Dye, Cam Newton and others lining the walls.

The sports vibe really gives the restaurant a busy feeling with every inch of the walls taken up by some picture or framed jersey but it’s one that’ll have something for anyone who loves college football in the state.
There isn’t just that however. There are many TVs sprayed all over the dining room, each one showing any number of sports broadcasts from ESPN, NFL Network, and MLB Network. During the fall they even have watch parties for both Alabama and Auburn.
So, what about the barbecue? I went to Full Moon with my family on April 13th because we all usually get something a bit different to help get a variety of what they offer.

What I got was their staple: a good ol’ Alabama pull pork sandwich. It usually comes with pickles and chow-chow but I’m not a fan of those but they easily let you get it without either. The pork had a flavorful and smokey taste thanks to slow cooking it over hickey wood as mentioned in a 2017 article on AL.com by Amber Sutton. It had no fat and wasn’t over or under cooked. I’ve had it at times where it had some tough ends but it’s a rarity. This time wasn’t one of those times.
The barbeque sauce they put on the sandwich isn’t just good, it’s award winning as mentioned in Jan. 25 2025 article by Monika Sudakov on Daily Meal. The sauce is a mixture of sweet thanks to the brown sugar they put in it with a hint of spice thanks to pepper. It gives the sauce a perfect balance of flavor so as not to overwhelm you. It’s an amazing yet simple pulled pork and I never tire of it when I get one.

The mac and cheese side is also some of my favorite around. The noodles are a bit softer than I’d like but the cheese is so rich and creamy that I don’t mind.
My brother David ordered The Southern Classic, a half-pound burger with onions, bacon, pickles, cheese and barbeque sauce. With it being a half pound it said that it “filled him up” after a day of not eating anything.
The fried okra that he got as a side were in his own works “perfect.” Crunchy breading with a yummy inside. The best okra he’s ever had.

My mom Debbie loves the Loaded Baker. A large baked potato that comes with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese, scallions and bacon bits.
She says she loves it because “it’s good and filling because of the size of it,” but that it’s so big that you need another set of topics which they gladly provide. She did and she said the extra sides “made the potato perfect.”
My dad Ed got the vegetable plate. You can pic from any combination of baked beans, pinto beans, black-eyed peas, squash casserole, sweet potato casserole, butter beans, mashed potatoes, and any of their sides including mac and cheese and fried okra all while coming with a corn muffin.

His plate had the baked beans, mac and cheese, and fried okra. He said it was “too much” for him since it was on a large divider plate but he loved it overall anyway saying “it was as good as usual.”
He also recommends getting their vegetable of the day because it’s usually “always good to get.”
One Yelp reviewer, Lameka from Charlette, North Carolina, said, “We were just looking for a great place to eat and stumbled upon this GEM,” on her trip back from New Orleans. “Service was fast and the food was delicious. The portion size was more than enough.”
She said she got the BBQ chicken, the baked beans which she mentioned was her favorite, and potato salad. Her finale words of her review were “I will definitely be back for more!!”
It is a bit expensive, with our order for four being around $62 with drinks, but it was more than worth it for the quality of the meal.
Overall, Full Moon’s Montgomery location has a great welcoming atmosphere, is very family friendly and offers amazing classic Alabama barbecue food. It’s a place you have to go to at least once since they have something for everyone.
