Life After College

BY: Alecia Hicks

Life after college is one of the biggest concerns of a higher education student. There are so many endless possibilities and concerns to think about. Where will you live? What career path will you embark on? What type of quality life do you want to have? There are so many things to consider. Thankfully, there are amazing schools like AUM that are dedicated to making sure students are fully equipped to go out and make their places in society as successful adults.

Moving from college to the “real world” can be very scary. Although college students have already been given a little taste of freedom with on-campus living and events that aid in networking and socializing, real independence kicks in when it is time to leave the campus and enter the workplace. COVID-19 has impacted the definition of a “workplace,” but new graduates are also expected to take on more responsibilities such as housing, bills, food, etc. Not only are students expected to maintain some of these necessities, but they also have to be able to balance a professional job as well.

In order to make sure that you are equipping yourself with the best possible tools for life after college, I suggest checking out some of the very important resources AUM has to offer. If you aren’t familiar with the Career Development Center (CDC), located in Taylor Center, you should check it out! The CDC on campus helps students prepare for interviews, develop attractive resumes and any other steps that might be helpful to landing the perfect job for you after college. You do not have to be a graduating senior to check out the CDC. It is never too early to start preparing for your future!

Switching from taking college classes to adulting can be a scary step in preparation for the future, but it can also take the stress off of the future. There are so many exciting things that come with complete independence. Make sure to remember that this should be an exciting time, not a scary one!
