Student Spotlight: Psychology Department with Alyssah Locklear and JR Lister

BY: Allison Stewart With a coffee in hand, you can assure Alyssah Locklear and JR Lister are ready to go. These AUM seniors are currently pursuing their undergraduate degrees in psychology. Caffeine may help get them through their studies, but so does dedication and passion for their desired career.  Alyssah and JR both began their Warhawk journey in 2016. They did not start off as psychology majors. Instead, as they progressed through their academic years, they discovered psychology was the right path. Alyssah’s goal is to get her PhD in clinical psychology. She is currently looking at graduate school to…

Your Outfit Is Your Armor

Your Outfit Is Your Armor

BY: Taniya Frazier People guard themselves with the clothes that they wear. Fashion is a free range of expression--people can express their creativity and their level of comfort. Having an awesome outfit can really boost your mood. You often hear the famous quote, "If you look good, you feel good." I couldn't agree more. I used to think that it was just something to say to make yourself feel better, but I've had my fair share of bad days. Wearing something that brings you comfort or happy memories can really boost your day, whether it's good or bad.  Confidence comes…

Graduate On Your Own Time

Graduate On Your Own Time

BY: Taniya Frazier You just found out that graduation isn’t happening as soon as you thought. It may take  you another year, or maybe another semester. Hey, it happens. I wish I could say that it doesn't happen as much as it does, but I can't. There are so many emotions that come with finding out you won't graduate when you intended to: failure, loss of motivation, or no sense of direction. These are just a few feelings I have experienced, but they are also what current and previous peers feel. I have learned that everyone graduates in their own…

The Importance of Disconnecting

The Importance of Disconnecting

BY: Cory Donde We all live in a digital age where constantly looking at a screen is far from unusual. We have screens that we use for class, screens for entertainment, and even screens in our pockets for on-the-go use. Before delving into my article, I want to make it clear that this isn't a rant you would see from your aunt on Facebook about, “When I was your age I played outside and etc...” I just want to tell a story of an event this past week that affected me, and I hope can reach out to others.  On…

Acing the Interview

Acing the Interview

BY: Caitlin Gallagher Job interviews are typically always a little, if not a lot, nerve-wrecking. There’s so much to prove in such a short amount of time, and with the stakes so high, there is plenty of room to let our nerves get the best of us. Fear not‒there are some tips and tricks that will help ease the stress and gather your nerves in a positive way.  With any interview, you should always be prepared. Researching the company and gaining insight as to what their missions are really bode well with the person conducting the interview. They want to…

Fall Hair Trends

Fall Hair Trends

BY: Molly Gray Though it does not feel like it outside, the fall season is upon us. This means that people will start decorating and getting ready for Halloween and Thanksgiving. It also means for many that they will be getting their fall wardrobe ready. But have you thought about getting your hair ready for fall? I spoke with hair stylist Alex McCord from Framework Hair Salon in Prattville, Ala. about the fall hair trends she often sees this time of the year. McCord said, “The fall hair colors that are the most popular are reds, burgundy, and chocolate brown.”…

AUM Men’s Soccer Beats Georgia Southwestern

BY: Allison Singleterry Auburn University at Montgomery’s men’s soccer team beat Georgia Southwestern State University 4-1. AUM men’s soccer is now on a two game winning streak after beating Florida Southern College 2-1 in Melbourne, Fla. last Sunday. The men’s team’s official record is now 2-3.  The first goal came from the 20th minute of the match -- Arnaud Baron sent a cross in to Phillip Spickenbaum, and he headed it into the back of the net. Only 38 seconds later, Thomas Carlile scored from a pass delivered from Spickenbaum. In the 26th minute, Carlile scored again to put the…

Fall Decor on a Budget

Fall Decor on a Budget

BY: Allison Stewart The leaves are changing, football is being played, and the pumpkin-flavored drinks are being poured.  That’s right—fall is officially here.  One of my favorite things to do when we begin a new season is to embrace festive home decor. The smallest changes keep a space fresh and inviting. There are endless options of ways you can spruce up your space this season. Even better, you do not have to damage your wallet while doing so.  Fall is the time of the year that brings the warm colors and coziest designs. You can have them all with a…

Warhawks’ Five Game Winning Streak

Warhawks’ Five Game Winning Streak

BY: Brandon Barker The Warhawk volleyball team has been on a roll lately, winning their fifth straight game this past weekend. After starting 0-2 this season, the Warhawks bounced back hard. On Saturday, Sept. 14, AUM defeated North Greenville University (3-1) in a fantastic finish. The first set was a hard one with both teams going on runs taking the lead back and forth. In the end, the Lady Warhawks went on a 5-1 run to give them the first set win.  The second set was another nail biter for the team, but they eventually won after breaking a (27-27)…

Let’s Fall into a New Season

Let’s Fall into a New Season

BY: Tameesha Matthews Alabama is always a sight to see during any season, especially in the fall. As the fully bloomed plants began to wither and change to the beautiful fall colors we know and love, Alabama transforms into an unforgettable experience. When most people think of fall they think about Halloween, but Alabama has much more to fall into during this new season.  Alabama is the home of two SEC football teams; the University of Alabama and Auburn University. This is the time of the year where seeing un-painted faces and anything without a team logo is rare. Homes,…

With a hot three-game winning streak, the Warhawks (6-3) plan to get revenge on the Falcons (5-4) and continue their dominance on the court. Be on the lookout for a few players for the…

Most people have a hard time trying to decide which corrective lenses are better for them.   There are pros and cons to wearing both contacts and glasses. Most are not mentioned when purchasing contacts or glasses. Here is a shortlist of the pros and cons of each.  Contacts  Pros  Contacts conform to…

AlienStock Festival Makes Major Changes

BY: Allison Singleterry AlienStock is a festival that was originally going to be held in Rachel, Nevada- the closest town to Area 51. The festival is intentionally held around the time and location of the “Storm Area 51” event. Just weeks before the festival was supposed to happen, they switched locations.  AlienStock has now been moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. There was a “lack of infrastructure, planning, and risk management, along with concerns raised for the safety of the expected 10,000+ attendees.” There is no longer any affiliation between Rachel, Nevada and AlienStock.  AlienStock is joining the Area 51 Celebration…
