Fall Decor on a Budget

BY: Allison Stewart

The leaves are changing, football is being played, and the pumpkin-flavored drinks are being poured.

That’s right—fall is officially here.

One of my favorite things to do when we begin a new season is to embrace festive home decor. The smallest changes keep a space fresh and inviting. There are endless options of ways you can spruce up your space this season. Even better, you do not have to damage your wallet while doing so.

Fall is the time of the year that brings the warm colors and coziest designs. You can have them all with a few helpful tips.

  1. Check out local deals.
  2. Get crafty with things you already have.
  3. Scents make all the difference.

When it comes to saving money, sales are always your friend. There are local stores that currently host sales every week. At Hobby Lobby, you may find all fall items up to 40% off. Items range from wreaths, pumpkins, kitchen towels to candles. You can find their weekly ad with their deals at https://www.hobbylobby.com/find-savings. Aldi provides a similar weekly ad, which can be found at https://www.aldi.us/en/weekly-specials/upcoming-aldi-finds/. Up until Sept. 24, they  have scarecrows for only $6.

Target offers a variety of home decorations for a low price.

Another trendy place is Target. When you walk inside, you are sure to stop at the value aisles. With prices as low at $1, you can rack up on simple fall knick-knacks. Check out https://www.target.com/ for more information.

Mix and match different colors and sizes to have a balanced
look.

Your local Walmart also carries a fall home collection. I purchased a bag of dainty fall pumpkins for under $5. An easy way to use them is to scatter them around the focal points of your rooms. For example, simply placing a few at the center of a table adds the pop you need. Also, Walmart carries a wide selection of wreaths. Adding a wreath at the entrance of your home creates an inviting atmosphere. If you want to look more into their options, visit https://www.walmart.com

Thrift stores will always be a place you can rely on, too. You may have to spend time searching, but you can surely find treasures. The great thing about thrift stores is the potential for a unique touch in your space. You may find items you did not originally think about. Some of the best thrift stores around are Goodwill, America’s Thrift Store and Eastbrook Flea Market.

Adding small fall-inspired phrases around your space can be as
simple as playing Scrabble.

If you do not have the time or money to go shopping, take a look around at items you already own. One common item in some homes is a letter board. If this is something you own, look up fall puns or charming sayings like, “Goodbye Summer. Hello Fall.” Searching for ideas on Google or Pinterest will provide endless choices. If you do not have a letter board, take a different approach with Scrabble. Displaying your sayings with these game pieces adds a creative flair that will surely turn heads.

Paint goes a long way, too. If you have any canvases, cardboard or spare pieces of wood, you can create your own fall signs. Use colors like orange, gold, yellow and maroon to add the right shades of fall. Take any items in your house, like blankets or pillows that have warm accents, and display them in your main spaces. More visible fall colors throughout the home add the right touch of comfort in any room.

Finally, switching out candles or wax burners with seasonal scents, such as cinnamon or vanilla, will fill your home with the right aroma. Scents are a major factor when it comes to decorating. Even though it may not always be a decoration itself, it complements the fall pieces. You can find affordable candles at Walmart, Target and even Dollar Tree.

Overall, when it comes to feeling the spirit of fall, you are capable of sprucing up your space. No matter how big or small a home, simple touches are sure to gain attention from visitors.
