SGA Executive Candidate Bios

SGA Executive Candidate Bios:

Jasmine Powell- SGA President Candidate

My name is Jasmine Powell and I am from Georgiana, Alabama. I am currently a senior majoring in Education here at Auburn University at Montgomery. I am extremely excited about announcing my candidacy to become your 2018-2019 SGA President of Auburn University at Montgomery. I will be running my campaign on bridging the GAP between faculty and students ONE department at time and establishing better transparency, communication, and tradition back on our campus.

I am currently a part of S.W.O.T, Peer Advocates, and SGA. I am running for SGA President simply because I want to change the way SGA is perceived. I want to make students want to join SGA or even get involved on campus just by seeing what other clubs and organizations are doing to make this campus what it is today. Creating positivity, stability, and unity is my main goal simply because as a member of SGA you realize that not every person has the same heart or mindset as you, but it’s up to you to want to change that and make people see you as leader by doing things that will ultimately speak volumes in a room full of people.

My first goal as president is to make students aware of everything that is happening on campus around them that they probably wouldn’t know. Students here at AUM have always seem to question tuition, academics, dining, athletics and other things that take place on this campus but never know the ends and outs about these issues. Yes, this is a commuter school and we can’t get rid of that but we can enhance that by creating meaning relationships with the people around us. So as President I want to break all communication barriers and introduce TALK’s with EXEC’s which simple is a forum/informational that will keep students in the loop of information that is discussed in EC meetings and situations that are being handled properly within EC. Now this will happen once or twice a month depending on the amount of issues or situations that need to be taken care of by EC.  As a student here at AUM I know how it feels to be left out not knowing what my money is going to and what activities are being done with my money and with TALK’s with EXEC’s, students will get that chance to know the financial, academic, and governmental issues being tackled as SGA tries to make this university run smoothly.

If I were to become president, I would hope to accomplish at least one of my three goals because I know that not every goal is going to be obtained but If I work towards at least one then I would feel as if I accomplished a lot. I may not have everyone behind me but I know that I will get the job done no matter what!

Khaliah Ashley- SGA President Candidate

Greetings Warhawk Family! My name is Khaliah Ashley and I am from Goodwater, Alabama. I am a junior majoring in Education. I am involved in different clubs and organizations, like our Student Government Association, where I am a senator for our wonderful library and the President Pro-Tempore. I am also a Warhawk Recruiter and a member of our Campus Activities Board. Since coming to AUM, I have been involved in numerous organizations on campus, and I believe that all of these experiences have prepared me to take a L.E.A.P., which is why I am running to become your next SGA President for the 2018-2019 academic year.

If elected, I will capitalize on the work that has been put in motion! Our voices have power, and I want to make sure every student feels they have a voice, and if they speak up, they will be heard. No matter what the issue is—dining services, financial aid, collegiate fee cost, housing, customer service, or events—I will advocate and fight for you!  Also, I want to bridge any gaps between the university administration and student body. We can accomplish more together than separately. It is time for us to expand the progress that has been made on campus, and you can count on me to lead with honor, integrity, and passion.

Together, let us Lead, Excel, Achieve, and Prosper. Together, we must LEAD because all of us play a role in making our voices heard. Together, we must EXCEL because AUM is a place that strives for excellence. Together, we can ACHIEVE the goals that are before us. And, in the end, when it’s all said and done, together we will PROSPER!

Ciara Freeman- Secretary Candidate

My name is Ciara Freeman, a native of Birmingham, Alabama and I am a rising junior majoring in Biology and Chemistry/Pre-health. I am currently a member of SGA as well as the Tri-Beta Biology Club and Honor Society. I also participate with AEO Pre-Health Honor Society events. I am running for SGA Secretary for the 2018-2019 academic year.

As a person, I am continuously learning and gaining experience. It is crucial to have someone who can communicate and organize in a position such as secretary. I hope to improve SGA with communication skills and improve my own networking skills by understanding the students at AUM.

I hope to accomplish helping SGA become more in-touch with it’s students by communicating, showing respect for their opinions, and being more organized. I feel that the secretary is the power behind the organization and is key to always improving communication and organization skills.

Felix Toussaint- Chief Justice Candidate

For those of you who may not know me, my name is Felix Toussaint. I am from Millbrook, Alabama and thank you for allowing to me to represent you as your 2018-2019 SGA Chief Justice. I am currently a senior dual majoring in Biology and Chemistry with a concentration in Pre-health sciences. This will be my third year serving you in SGA (2016- 2017 College of Arts and Sciences Senator, and I am currently your Chief Justice).

Along with SGA, I am a member of the University Honors Program, Students Advocating for a Greener Earth (SAGE), Orange Jacket Society, Warhawk Disability Alliance, National Society of Leadership and Success, an Advancement Ambassador, and I am the President of the Student Alumni Association.

After finding two Associate Justices, I will continue being your voice and ensure that your concerns are being addressed. I look forward to continue to serve you as your 2018- 2019 SGA Chief Justice. Thank you and GO WARHAWKS!

Tahissa Toussaint- Treasurer Candidate

My name is Tahissa Toussaint and I am currently a junior in the College of Business. My major is Business Management with a minor in Legal Studies. The organizations that I am apart of are SWOT, AUM Women Lead Society, ISA, International Warhawk Ambassador, and an Advancement Ambassador.

The position I am running for is treasurer. As treasurer, I believe that I can be a big asset in distributing school funds efficiently and effectively. By doing this I will be able to handle funds appropriately by giving the needed organization the funds they need to carry out their vision for the student body.
