MONTGOMERY, Ala. — As students enter their 2026 fall semester, they may notice their dorms more occupied than usual. Auburn University at Montgomery is partnering with Faulkner University to provide temporary campus housing for Faulkner’s incoming students in need of a place to live, as announced Aug. 14 by Faulkner’s president.
Faulkner University’s President Mitch Henry said to WSFA’s Layla Reynolds, “We are grateful to Chancellor Stockton and our friends at Auburn University at Montgomery for helping us accommodate our students.”
Contacted by email, the Office of AUM’s Chancellor Carl A. Stockton and AUM Housing and Residence Life did not comment about the temporary housing with Faulkner.
This fall, Faulkner has an increased need of housing 700 on-campus students. In addition to temporary housing, AUM is also providing three shuttle routes to Faulkner’s campus per day, ranging from morning, midday and evening, giving easy access to Faulkner’s students to be able to participate in classes and use Faulkner’s amenities, according WSFA reports.
One AUM student said she hadn’t noticed the change, but felt betrayed by AUM Housing because she initially had difficulty getting a dorm. “I haven’t run into any Faulkner students on campus,” said Tashae Hogan, an on-campus student. “But I personally struggled to get housing on campus this semester, so to see that we are helping Faulkner students get housing makes sense.”
President Henry said he is thankful for AUM’s help. ”This ongoing spirit of cooperation allows us to continue providing our students with a quality residential experience while ensuring they remain connected to the Faulkner community,” said Henry to WSFA.
This temporary housing agreement is one of two recent partnerships AUM made this summer with Faulkner, located just 2.7 miles from AUM’s main campus.
Officials from AUM and Faulkner’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in July signed an agreement to create an accelerated 3+3 law degree pathway, where AUM students complete three years of undergraduate coursework before entering Faulkner’s law program. AUM students can finish the remaining two years of the law program, earning both a bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor in six years instead of the traditional seven, according to AUM’s July announcement in Warhawk Weekly.
“This agreement reflects AUM’s commitment to creating meaningful academic pathways that help students reach their goals more efficiently and affordably,” Stockton said in the press release about the law degree partnership. “By partnering with Faulkner Law, we are giving motivated students a clear route to pursue a legal education while remaining connected to the Montgomery community.”
