 AUM offers on-site learning resources

By: Hayley Richards

MONTGOMERY, Ala – Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) is stepping up their game when it comes to providing students with academic resources. AUM offers a multitude of learning resources that are available at no cost to enrolled students. The goal is to offer on-campus tutoring to students who need extra help with their courses. From free tutoring and mentoring services to the food pantry and health and wellness services, the university’s goal is to ensure every opportunity is available for students to focus on their studies and success.

The Warhawk Academic Success Center (WASC). The WASC offers a variety of resources including tutoring, student success advising, personalized planning for success and financial counseling. The AUM Learning Center is provided by the WASC and offers tutoring services related to liberal arts and subjects in the core curriculum. Tutors are highly qualified and receive training in techniques to enhance learning. The Learning Center welcomes all students, even those who do not use English as their first language. Students are provided two half-hour tutoring sessions per week, each week of class they are registered for. Those who choose to use the Learning Center have the option to meet with tutors in-person or online. Sessions held online are conducted via Blackboard Collaborate. Appointments are needed when visiting the WASC.

Former AUM student Ashley Allred states, “I graduated from AUM in 2000. I am so excited to hear about these amazing learning features offered, especially since I have a high school student who plans on attending AUM. It gives me comfort knowing that he will have free academic services because tutoring is not cheap.” Along with the WASC, AUM also provides the Instructional Support Lab (ISL). The ISL is located in Goodwyn Hall and focuses on math, science, computer technology, nursing and other science-related subjects. When visiting the ISL, no appointments are needed. Students are able to walk in during service hours and will be paired with a tutor who specializes in the subject field.  AUM tutoring services are provided by trained and highly educated individuals. Students are encouraged to get a jump start on their studies and seek a campus-provided resource for help when needed.
