AUM Homecoming Setting the Tone for 2022

BY: Chris Porter

Between Feb. 4-12, 2022, Auburn University at Montgomery will be hosting its annual homecoming. During this time, former students return to celebrate the existence of AUM and to reconnect with the student body, faculty and staff. This is a relief, as this will be AUM’s first homecoming since 2020, right before the start of COVID-19. Many different events and activities are taking place as part of the homecoming tradition, including a celebration of Black History Month to honor the contributions of African-Americans to history.

To get more thoughts on homecoming, I sat down with SGA president Keenan Carter. Here is what he had to say: “Homecoming is one of my all-time favorite campus events. It’s a week full of fun events, fellowship with fellow peers, faculty, and alumni, along with the free food, of course. But most of all, it’s a time where we get to see the Warhawk pride light up this campus as we celebrate dear AUM.” When asked about the events to look forward to, Carter said, “We have a lot of events planned for homecoming. For starters will host a Homecoming Kickoff mixer on Sunday, February 6th to officially begin the homecoming festivities. Students will also get to meet the students vying for a chance to be members of the 2022 Homecoming Court. To culminate this year’s homecoming, we are bringing back the annual tailgate party before the men’s and women’s basketball game.”

Below is a list of additional upcoming events to anticipate.

  • Feb. 8: Lunch on the Quad will be provided by the Campus Activities Board. Inflatable sports games will also be provided.
  • Feb. 8: AUM is hosting an event paying homage to the Black musicians who have shaped the music industry, playing samples of their classic songs. This event will take place at the Warhawk Alley Courtyard from 3- 5 p.m.
  • Feb. 10: Celebration of Curtiss the Warhawk’s birthday.
  • Feb. 12: Men’s and Women’s Basketball vs West Florida. The women’s game starts at 2 p.m., and the men’s game starts at 4 p.m. The Homecoming Court Presentation will also take place during the game.
