AUM Bid Day 2022

By: Sierra Hall

AUM is home to three National Panhellenic Conference Sororities, where young women find sisterhood among their fellow students. Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Delta Zeta Sorority and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority spent a week hosting and learning all about potential new members as well as sharing their reasons for joining greek life. This week of getting to know potential new members is called Primary Recruitment. Primary Recruitment allows each sorority to highlight their sisterhood, answer questions potential new members may have, discuss their philanthropy, and educate potential new members about their sorority. Primary Recruitment is a week of events with specific topics for educating potential new members. Each sorority has days planned to discuss their philanthropy, what greek life is all about and to speak on their experience in the sorority.

Malori Butler, president of the Theta Beta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta, spoke on the process.

“I just focus on being myself to relay the genuine and comfortable family-like bond my sisters and I share while still providing all of the vital information for these potential new women.” Primary recruitment focuses on young women finding an organization that they are happy to represent and have a place to grow socially as well as personally. Butler also spoke of the opportunities Alpha Gamma Delta cultivated to create special memories among the girls, “We went on an all inclusive trip to Birmingham for the weekend and got so many fun activities together, bringing us closer together and allowing us to learn about each otherhood. Sisterhood retreat is always such a vulnerable time and really opens you up to your sister” Butler has been active in Alpha Gamma Delta for four years and is in her final year with the chapter as an undergrad student. “I am looking forward to integrating these new women into chapter, preparing my sisters with the resources to lead to as I depart, and just being a part of the sisterhood one last time.” Hadassah Gaddis, president of the Lamda Nu chapter of Delta Zeta said she is looking forward to helping her sorority grow post COVID-19. “This semester I’m making it my goal to help my sorority grow on campus.” Along with being president, Gaddis is the vice president of philanthropy, vice president of new member education and Chaplin. She has been active with her chapter for three years. Zeta Tau Alpha was unable to comment on the process.

On the final day of recruitment, the girls receiving their official invitation to become apart of the sisterhood and run to meet their new sisters. Fourteen women participated in bid day and ran out of Goodwyn Hall into the Quad to their respective sororities. Each sorority decked out in its coordinated bid day outfits and accepted their new sisters with open arms and smiles.
