With the beginning of the new school year comes the beginning of Auburn University at Montgomery fall sports. The Warhawks will have five different teams competing this fall: men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. The men’s cross country team will have their first meet September 10 at the University of North Alabama’s UNA Invitational in Florence, Alabama, after finishing No. 7 in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) championship and eleventh in the NCAA Southern Regionals in 2021. Women’s cross country had their first meet Saturday at Jacksonville State’s Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Alabama. The Warhawks finished No. 8 out of 21 teams, with six school records broken in the 4K. The women’s cross country team will be competing alongside the men at the UNA Invitational in Florence this Saturday. Men’s and women’s soccer has begun at AUM as well. The men’s soccer team currently holds a 0-2-1 record for Fall 2022. The team hopes to make a run at the GSC Championships this year, after falling short in the NCAA tournament in 2021, losing in the Elite-8. Their next home game will be against Union University on Sept. 16. Women’s soccer has also begun, with the ladies starting the season 0-3. The women’s soccer team finished the 2021 season with a record of 6-10 as they were outscored 32-27 by their opponents last season. As for the next home game, the ladies will also be facing Union University on Sept. 16. The women’s volleyball team is off to a 2-6 start for the year, after participating in Reddie-Tiger Invitational and the USC-Aiken invitational. The volleyball team appears to have much younger talent this year, as freshmen Kendall McCain and Alessia Cappai have each won GSC freshman of the week honors. The team finished 2021 with a first-round exit of the GSC Championship, falling 3-1 to Mississippi College. Following the Warhawk Invitational, the Warhawks will face the University of West Georgia at home on Sept. 13. As for tickets, all AUM students and faculty have free entry to any regular-season home sporting events with a valid AUM ID as long as they register for a student or faculty/staff pass at aumathletics.com.
