AUM men’s basketball started off the season with two strong wins when they traveled to Florida for the GSC-SSC Crossover Challenge on Nov. 11 and the team is looking ahead for a chance at the Gulf South Conference title.

These two wins against (Saint Leo University and Florida Southern College) on the road sparked the attention of the AUM fanbase. Since these two games the Warhawks have had an up-and-down season to date but still have that spark and perseverance that everyone is excited about. Two basketball front men said they both have high ambitions and are eager to lead their team to victory. Both transfer students, graduate student Travis Anderson and senior Zameron Boozer said they want to give it everything they have on the court because this could potentially be the last shot they have at winning the GSC conference title.

This perseverance shown in the recent matchup against University of West Alabama. The team was trailing by ten points at half time and the Warhawks weren’t going to take the easy way out and came back to win the game 69-58. Hopefully the Warhawks can bring that same energy and prove in their upcoming games that they are one of the best teams in the GSC The Warhawks were on the road and up against Shorter University in Rome, Georgia Saturday, Jan. 27, followed by a huge matchup at home in Montgomery on Thursday, Feb. 1 against Mississippi College.

On the other side at AUM, the women’s basketball team has a 10-7 winning record and pushes boundaries every time they play.  The women’s team look very encouraging and long may the success keep coming. They opened their season with a win and a loss on the road in Florida and since then have certainly been on the up, with ten wins since the opening weekend.

After the last game AUM played against Shorter University, the Warhawk’s Women’s head coach Jon Plefka said. “Any win, especially on the road, is very important this late in the season. It’s been a tough week with three games, but we persevered and now are preparing for two huge home games beginning Thursday night.”

There seems to be good feelings as far as the women’s season goes, which is nice to see their hard work and talent on the court.  The past two games they have won both against in conference GSC schools University of Alabama in Huntsville and University of West Alabama.
