Is Violence Getting Worse in Your Neighborhood?

BY: Anthony Flournoy As a resident of Montgomery, Alabama many would want to know if they were safe in the areas that they live in. A lot of people in this city have families and other loved ones that reside in it.  There are many violent crimes that occur every day here in Montgomery. So, it is best for families and individuals to know what areas have a higher volume of crime. Montgomery happens to have one of the highest crime rates in America compared to communities of all sizes. The types of crimes committed consist of robbery, assault, murder, burglary, vehicle theft, and many others. In this year alone, there have been over 10,000 reported incidents of crime and violent crime.  Violent crimes consist of murder & manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated as...

Materials You Need for the Job You Deserve

BY: Tameesha Matthews Writing and building a great resume is a crucial step in any job search. Without proof of a professional background, a prospective employer is likely to stop considering you as a suitable candidate for a job offer. Cover letters and portfolios are as equally important. Cover letters serve as the head of your resume -- they give you an opportunity to introduce yourself and mention past and present experiences that may qualify you for the job. Portfolios serve as the tail -- they are work samples that back up the information you’ve provided in your resume and cover letter.  The best way to build the perfect resume is to start small and continue to add on. However, all work experiences aren’t good work experiences, so I recommend using the top three that bene...

Review: Shakespeare’s Hamlet at Alabama Shakespeare Festival

BY: Molly Gray Last week, I had the privilege of going to Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery to see Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Here are my thoughts about the production. If you have ever seen Hamlet, you know that there are multiple characters and locations to tell the story. There are three acts. The play lasted two hours and 45 minutes with two intermissions. For some people, this would have been too long. However, I thought that it was just enough time to really get a good idea of the plot.  The play was put on by Bedlam Theatre. They are known for performing Hamlet with four actors. With the multiple characters in Hamlet, it was very impressive that these actors could remember all of the lines for the different characters they had to portray. The actor who played Hamlet wa...

“Treat Yo’ Self!”

BY: Kaleria Jackson Sometimes you just have to “Treat Yo’ Self!” As college students, we can put ourselves last when it comes to our mental health or even our physical appearance.  The phrase “Treat Yo’ Self” comes from Parks and Recreation’s Donna Meagle. What does it truly mean? It means spending money or time on something you will enjoy or taking a day out of a busy week to indulge in things that will relieve your stress levels. It may be hard to adjust your schedule at first, but after some time, treating yourself will come naturally. Knowing what may bring you peace during a stressful time in your life can be difficult. Here are a few ideas on how to “Treat Yo’ Self!”. I asked a few students and faculty how they treat themselves.  Student Chasity Smith says...

Hazing is defined as any action taken or situation created intentionally, whether on or off campus, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule. Examples of hazing include but are not limited to: Paddling in any formCreation of excess fatigueScavenger hunts, tr...
