Let’s Fall into a New Season

BY: Tameesha Matthews Alabama is always a sight to see during any season, especially in the fall. As the fully bloomed plants began to wither and change to the beautiful fall colors we know and love, Alabama transforms into an unforgettable experience. When most people think of fall they think about Halloween, but Alabama has much more to fall into during this new season.  Alabama is the home of two SEC football teams; the University of Alabama and Auburn University. This is the time of the year where seeing un-painted faces and anything without a team logo is rare. Homes, business, and cars are even filled with football decorations. Though our AUM Warhawks do not have a football team, we do have a soccer team that is currently in season. If SEC football isn’t your thing, go ch...

AUM Volleyball Taking On Montevallo University

BY: Randy Dunn The AUM Warhawks return home after being on the road for weeks. The first game back will be against the Montevallo Falcons. This will be the first time the Warhawks and Falcons will see each other this year. In 2017, the Falcons won their two matchups against the Warhawks (3-0) & (3-1), and in 2018 they met once and defeated the Warhawks (3-1). With a hot three-game winning streak, the Warhawks (6-3) plan to get revenge on the Falcons (5-4) and continue their dominance on the court. Be on the lookout for a few players for the Warhawks that have been on a tear. Dariona Dash(#1 Outside Hitter), Jaylyn Felder(#2 Middle Blocker), Sommer Rhea(#5 Outside Hitter), and Giada Pais-Marden(#7 Outside Hitter) have all been electrifying in helping their team become victorious,...
Contacts vs. Glasses

Contacts vs. Glasses

BY: Kaleria Jackson I have been wearing glasses since I was six years old, and I rely on them for everything. I have also been wearing contacts since I was 14 years old. I have been relying on corrective lenses for years, and so have many other people. Most people have a hard time trying to decide which corrective lenses are better for them.   There are pros and cons to wearing both contacts and glasses. Most are not mentioned when purchasing contacts or glasses. Here is a shortlist of the pros and cons of each.  Contacts  Pros  Contacts conform to the curvature of your eye, providing a wider field of view and causing fewer vision distortions and obstructions than eyeglasses. Contact lenses don't get in the way when playing sports and exercising. Co...

Theatre Showcase

BY: Kaleria Jackson Theatre AUM is starting the year off by presenting the many talents of multiple students in the annual Showcase. The Showcase will be a compilation of scenes, monologues, and songs that revolve around a theme— this year’s theme is entitled, "World Tour: Acting Showcase," and it will focus on the works of international playwrights from around the globe. The Theatre Department is hosting the Showcase because it is a perfect way to get many students who are wishing to participate the chance to be involved. The Showcase also prepares students for professional auditions that occur throughout the academic year. The ensemble is made up of students from all five Colleges at Auburn University at Montgomery. There are over 20 students who are in the acting ensemble and a...

AlienStock Festival Makes Major Changes

BY: Allison Singleterry AlienStock is a festival that was originally going to be held in Rachel, Nevada- the closest town to Area 51. The festival is intentionally held around the time and location of the “Storm Area 51” event. Just weeks before the festival was supposed to happen, they switched locations.  AlienStock has now been moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. There was a “lack of infrastructure, planning, and risk management, along with concerns raised for the safety of the expected 10,000+ attendees.” There is no longer any affiliation between Rachel, Nevada and AlienStock.  AlienStock is joining the Area 51 Celebration event that is being held in Downtown Las Vegas on Sept. 19. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the event begins at 8 p.m. There will be Electronic Dance Music artists a...

Be Stylish, Save Money

BY: Daaiyah Latham  Finding stylish, affordable clothing can be hard sometimes. This article will give you steps and great places to shop while also keeping money in your pocket.   First things first: When it comes to being fashionable, sometimes you have to “shop” out of your comfort zone. Do not be afraid to shop in places that may be non-traditional for you. Growing up, a lot of people looked down on thrift stores. Thrift stores are one of the best places to shop. Not only does the thrift store have stylish pieces to put together, but if you have a thing for 90s fashion, you can find vintage pieces. The thrift store has not only clothing items, but also things to make your home look cute on a budget. From furniture to wall décor, the thrift store has everything! Thri...

Student Spotlight: Theatre AUM with Kate Saylor & Tony George

BY: Allison Stewart As seniors in the AUM Theatre Department, Kate Saylor and Tony George know what it takes to succeed in college. They made it through the nerves of freshman year, the stress of sophomore year (or should I say continuous stress) and the excitement of junior year. Now, they are beginning the last chapter of their Warhawk story.  The fun thing about Kate and Tony is their friendship. They both graduated from Wetumpka High School in 2016 and have been friends for over a decade. Being able to go to college together has made a positive impact on their relationship.  Kate started her college career as a theatre major. She recently chose photography as her minor. She thoroughly enjoys her major because the professors have extensive experience in the field. Many of them...

AUM’s Athletic Department Develops Students for Future

BY: Randy Dunn  As AUM’s athletics season kicks off, the Athletic Department gives students the opportunity to gain confidence when it comes to their field study so once the opportunity presents itself, they will have experience and knowledge to take to their job of interest. I had the honor to interview Sports Information Director Mr. Matthew Pellegrin, and we discussed the importance of students getting the experience with AUM.   I asked Mr. Pellegrin a few questions and here were his responses. Q: “How does giving students this opportunity help them graduate with experience with their field?”  A: “We feel like anytime you get to experience something, to practice it, you get better at it. I know when I was a student-worker in an athletics department it he...
