Safety Tips for Spring Break

Spring break is that one week a year where most college aged students rush to a beach, a ski lodge, or even somewhere over seas. With AUM’s spring break right around the corner, it is essential to add these tips and reminders to your packing list: First, staying safe during spring break or any other vacation starts before you even leave the driveway. If you are traveling by car to your spring break location, keep these tips in mind. If possible, you should switch out drivers to avoid someone falling asleep at the wheel. The person sitting in the passenger seat could be in charge of the music and keeping the driver alert. Political Film Series Honors International Women’s Day

March is Women’s History Month and the Political Film Series is presenting both the trials and the accomplishments of women with a showing of the 2015 film Suffragette, introduced by Dr. Elizabeth Woodworth. This historical drama recreates the feminist movement in 1912 London, England. Despite not receiving the right to vote until 1928, the film depicts the leaders of the movement such as Maud Watts (Carey Mulligan) as they struggle with poor work conditions, low pay and sexual harassment. According to the New York Times, “It shows the limits of solidarity even when the sympathetic ties of family or class are involved. AUM to Host Special Olympics Basketball Tournament

The Auburn University at Montgomery Department of Athletics is hosting the 2018 Special Olympics Alabama State Basketball Tournament this Friday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to come watch the tournament at their own pace any time during the event to support children and adults with intellectual disabilities from our very own Alabama community. This 2017-2018 Warhawk basketball season has proven to be tough one. With our recent change from NAIA to NCAA Division two there have been several changes to the program. Under the guidance of head coach Michael Cheaney he makes sure his players has what it takes on, and off the court. Bigger and tougher opponent’s in this division the Warhawk’s come out of every game with a desire to win. With high hopes coming into the season some of their goals have come up a shot short. SGA Applications for 2018-2019 Academic Year Now Open

The Auburn University at Montgomery Student Government Association is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 academic year until March 7 at 12 p.m. Applications for the executive, legislative and judicial branch are now open for students who are interested in being an SGA member for the 2018-2019 academic year. The executive branch is composed of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Chief Justice, Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff. You must have been an active member of the Student Government Association for the 2017-2018 academic year to qualify for these positions. Women’s Basketball Team Prepares for 2019 Season

The Women's basketball team is one game away from completing their 2018 season. In the beginning of the season, the Warhawks came out of the Gulf South Conference with a 2-0 record, beating not only Tuskegee, but Miles College as well. With losses to Young Harris College, Tuskegee, and Lee in November, the Warhawks had a change of pace and started off December with a win over Shorter. As the 2017 year came to a close, the Warhawks fell to Anderson College at home on December 30th. The Warhawks’ first win of the 2018 year came on January 13th when they took down The University of Alabama at Huntsville. In January and February of 2018, the Student Government Association (SGA) worked diligently to communicate and meet the needs of the student body. We received the highest level of student participation and engagement in years. We had over 50 students attends our SGA Senate meeting on January 29th, 2018, and we had over 30 students attend our town hall meeting the next day. Goodwyn Gallery To Host Solo Exhibition

Don’t forget to check out Annie B. Campbell’s solo exhibition “Extracted” in Goodwyn Gallery! The exhibit will be on display until March 23 and was featured at this year’s Southern Studies Conference. With a focus in ceramics, Campbell’s works range from wall mounted to installations to freestanding pieces. Curtiss Celebrates Fifth Birthday

Our favorite bird has turned five this year! February 22nd 2018 Curtiss celebrated his birthday with his closest friends at the final Women’s and Men’s basketball games. With cupcakes, prizes, and photo fun Curtiss rang in his fifth year in flight on AUM’s campus. Curtiss the Warhawk was named after the Curtiss P-40 fighter jet stemming from Montgomery’s rich military history. Curtiss and his family engage in on campus events as well as diving into the community to soar through events.
