The Auburn University at Montgomery Department of Athletics is hosting the 2018 Special Olympics Alabama State Basketball Tournament this Friday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to come watch the tournament at their own pace any time during the event to support children and adults with intellectual disabilities from our very own Alabama community.
According to Special Olympics Alabama, Inc., the Special Olympics provides “…year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectually disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
This tournament is an opportunity for AUM students, staff and faculty to encourage, empower and cheer on these athletes to success! The event is open and free to all of AUM. Volunteer greeters and team supporters are needed!
