How to Stay Productive During the Summer Break

The spring semester is almost over which means that summer is quickly approaching. Summer seems like the best time to do nothing, but it is important to keep a structured schedule during the break. Focus on things that were put on the backburner while school was still in session, or try exploring new ideas that you always wanted to do but never had the time. For starters, do not sleep your days away. People often complain there is not enough time in the day, but getting out of bed at a decent time during a break can help lead you to a positive and productive day. Now that you have more time, you can enjoy every drop of your coffee instead of rushing to finish it. Curtiss Course Critiques

At the conclusion of every semester, AUM allows students to provide important feedback regarding their classes. These evaluations are known among students and faculty as Curtiss Course Evaluations. Students can anonymously rate and review their classes and professors. These evaluations are important feedback for the teachers and departments. Students are allowed to be honest about what stood out to them. Students can also provide details about what did not work for the class. Maybe a particular teaching technique by the professor really helped the student understand, or maybe the explanations were not sufficient. Montgomery County Apprenticeships, Internships Open To AUM Students

Auburn University at Montgomery colleges students are encouraged to take advantage of the Montgomery County Commission 2018 Student Apprenticeship Program. The apprenticeship program is eight weeks starting Monday, June 4th through Friday, July 27th. All eligible students between the ages of 16 and 22 can apply. An application and a letter of recommendation from a school guidance counselor or a Montgomery County Commissioner are required and must be submitted by Friday, April 20th at 5 p.m. Internships are also available. Requirements and eligibility vary. For more information on an internship, please contact the Montgomery City-County Personnel Office at 334-625-2675. Durr Lecture Series to Show Documentary

In conjunction with the Auburn University at Montgomery Durr Lecture Series, a showing of the documentary The Durrs of Montgomery will be shown at AUM on Friday, April 13th at 7 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 109. Following the film, Dr. Patricia Sullivan, a historian at the University of South Carolina and Lulah Colan, one of The Durr’s daughters, will lead panel discussions. Other friends and family of the Durrs will attened. According to Dr. Silvia Giagnoni, communications professor at AUM, Clifford and Virigina Durrs were heavily involved in civil rights movements in the 1930s and “were pivotal in supporting many actions in Montgomery” and Alabama. Virginia was a close friend of Rosa Parks, E.D Nixon, and Eleanor Roosevelt. By Ashleigh Hicks

The Glass Menagerie is like a life revolved around glass figures in another world. This story is told from one of the main characters Tom view. Tom is the narrator and also the son/brother. Amanda is the mother. Laura is the daughter/sister. Jim is the gentleman caller. This story is about a middle-class single parent home. Amanda husband ran off to explore the world, leaving Amanda there to raise their two children. Tom is the man of the house now, he works at a warehouse and takes care of his mother and sister. Laura was diagnosed with pleurosis at a young age had to wear a brace. Amanda does her best trying to find a gentleman caller for Laura. Spring Commencement Ceremonies

There will be two ceremonies hosted in AUM Gymnasium. One ceremony will start at 10:00 am and the other will start at 2:00 pm. A reception will be held in the Taylor Center, room 221, immediately after each graduation ceremony.  Graduation Times: 10:00 a.m. Colleges of education, Nursing & Health Sciences, and Public Policy and Justice 2:00 p.m. College of Arts and Sciences, and Business Guests: All guest are asked to arrive early to be seated in the gym. Once the capacity has been reached, or ceremony has started, no one will be able to enter the gymnasium on the first floor with no exceptions. Technology in the Classroom

For many students today it is unimaginable that their parents and grandparents made it through school without a computer. While technology in the classroom is believed by some to be a distraction, a study by the U.S. Department of Education highlighted the positive impacts of its incorporation into learning. The Department’s study finds that the relationship between students and their teachers shifts when technology was incorporated into the classroom. This allows the student to take the lead in their education. Meanwhile, the teacher acts as a “facilitator” to ensure that students have a firm understanding of the assignment before continuing independently.
