Warhawks Give Back at the Annual Tailgate

BY: Kenyetta Stephens

It’s Homecoming, and every year we have our annual tailgate at AUM. The tailgate started at 10 a.m. on Feb.12 and it lasted until 12 p.m. The weather was nice and bright, and many people came to celebrate. Student Affairs handed out t-shirts to everyone who attended. There were about 12 different tables with food, drinks and prizes. I was able to converse with multiple tables during that time.

This was one of the first times since Covid-19 started that we had tents out. Starting at the first tent was the Campus Activities Board (CAB). CAB was giving out chicken wings and drinks. There were four different types of wing flavors offered: lemon pepper, barbecue, buffalo and plain. The food was free to anyone who attended.

One of the tables that stood out to me was the Pi Lambda Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated. Their table included Jim ‘N Nicks Bar-B-Q. There was a variety of things that were available. The options were chicken, pork, mac, baked beans and cheese biscuits. Cori Summers, President of the Pi Lambda Chapter, stated, “We really wanted to show our support to AUM by giving back. Our motto is Greater Service, Greater Progress and that’s something we truly believe in.”

AUM gave everyone who is a part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) a chance to participate and set up tables. It was a great chance to show love to the school. There were also music and games out there as well. One of the popular songs played was “Wipe Me Down” by Lil Boosie. When that song comes on, it’s best to watch out, because all the Greeks are strolling and hopping. It was quite a show, and I feel like that was one of the best parts of the tailgate. The tailgate ended just in time for the basketball game.
