MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Aug. 26, 2026) —
This week’s Warhawk Audio Weekly opened by remembering Dolly Parton, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the age of 80.
Parton was known for more than her music, including her philanthropy, business mind and overall kindness. Discussed was the money Parton earned from Whitney Houston’s cover of “I Will Always Love You” and her decision to invest some of that money in a Black neighborhood in Nashville. They also talked about her Imagination Library, which has provided 300 million books to children for decades, as reported by Reuters.
Around campus, AUM Athletics is having a fundraiser going on through Sunday, Aug. 30. Information about the fundraiser was included in this week’s Warhawk Weekly.
Flock cameras were another topic of discussion. According to AL.com, Alabama lawmakers are considering putting restrictions on the state’s use of the cameras. One of the main concerns they talked about was the privacy of everyday people who are simply driving around. Legislatures also discussed who can access the cameras and the fact that there are not many clear rules about where they can be placed. The cameras are easy to spot around Montgomery. Four Flock cameras are installed just between the entrance to AUM at the roundabout and Jack’s off Taylor Road.
In state news, Alabama Shakes and lead singer Brittany Howard have become known around the world and have won multiple Grammy Awards, according to Pitchfork’s recent reports. During the band’s time away, Howard released her own music and won Grammys as a solo artist as well. Now Alabama Shakes is back with “I Must Be Dreaming”, their first album in 11 years. The album comes out Friday, Aug. 28.
The last topic of the show was data centers in Alabama. An Aug. 23 report from AL.com looked at the data centers already in the state and others that are still being developed. Many of these centers Alabama already has and how many more are being planned.
Tune in next week for WAW, Warhawk Audio Weekly with the latest weekly news, pop culture and what’s going around campus.
