Opportunities on the Rise: Virtual Career Fair

BY: Lashundra M. Daniels

Auburn University at Montgomery will be hosting a virtual career fair for all students looking for potential jobs in their respective career fields.

The four-day event will start on April 12 and continue through April 15. Every day the career fair will begin a new session at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Any students who are looking for a job are more than welcomed to join the virtual career fair.

The steps to join are simple. The first step is to register for the career fair via Handshake. Handshake is a third-party website that specializes in helping college kids find jobs in their majors. So, after you register for Handshake, the next step would be to set up your profile.

An updated resume will need to be uploaded to the profile to accurately pair you were jobs hiring within your skillset. It is essential that all the information entered is correct and truthful. After, the profile is complete the next step is to be online during the hours stated above for the career fair.

Although the career fair will be held over four days you don’t need to attend all four days. If you find a job that you like the first day and no longer want to attend the next few sessions, that is acceptable. The career fair is virtual, so you will encounter a vast number of employers online hiring for different positions and skillsets.

The employers will expect to see your face during these sessions so make sure if you register to attend the event that your camera is on at all times. You will also be expected to dress in professional attire. There will be no exceptions when it comes to attire and camera access.

If you are planning to attend the event, make sure that you register for it via Handshake. If you any further questions, feel free to contact the Career Development Center at career-dev@aum.edu.
