MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Riverwalk Stadium is a central family gathering place in downtown, and Mike Carney, of OnDeck Partners, who is the new Montgomery Biscuits CEO, said the capital city stood out to him because most of the entertainment is centralized.
“We looked at a lot of clubs to purchase, but what stood out about Montgomery was that the Riverwalk stadium is the heartbeat of Montgomery entertainment,” Carney said in an interview during last week’s annual Biscuits Fan Fest. “(Whether) you’re coming to see a concert or you’re coming to a fan fest of some other variety, we want this to be something for everyone and not just a baseball fan.” According to Ben Horney in an article written on Dec. 11, 2025, OnDeck’s focus will be on upgrading the Biscuits stadium by “adding staff, upgrading facilities and turning the ball park into year-round entertainment venues that can host concerts, festivals and more.” The Biscuits are part of the Southern Double-A Minor League Baseball along with the Biloxi Shuckers, Birmingham Barons, Chattanooga Lookouts, Columbus, Clingstones, Knoxville Smokies, Pensacola Blue Wahoos and the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

The new CEO of the minor league baseball team said his long-term vision extends beyond baseball. “We want fans to come here, not just because you’re coming to see a Biscuits game. Carney said the goal is for people to leave the Riverwalk stadium with positive memories they would like to share. “If those fans can come and go home and tell their friends and family, man I had a really great time at Riverwalk, that means that more fans are going to come back,” he said. “The word spreads and that’s where we feel we can be really effective.”
Building on that experience, Carney wants to build the community’s trust and gather input by collaborating with city leaders, local small businesses, organizations and colleges. According to Greta Locke’s press release on April 4, 2025, “Montgomery ranked among the top three counties in the state for capital investment and job creation.” “I think it starts with a great partnership with the chambers, a great partnership with the local universities,” he added. “It’s really important that we have young people that love coming here.”
Fans can expect positive changes to the game day experience, but the things that are changing haven’t been released yet. Carney gives hope. “We are still very early on. We’ve got a lot of ideas circulating,” He said. “We’re not coming in here saying we know everything about Montgomery. What we’re saying is that we want to learn.”
As the Biscuits prepare for the 2026 season, the new CEO said progress must be visible. “We need to have some really tangible things to talk about that our commitment is demonstrated in action to the Montgomery community,” he added. The Biscuits season starts on April 7 and they will play the Columbus Clingstones at the Riverwalk Stadium at 6 p.m.
For now, Carney said, the focus right now is getting to know the community.” If you see me, please introduce yourself and share your story; we’re here to learn.” For season tickets, group outings and updates on the Montgomery Biscuits, visit their Facebook page, Montgomery Biscuits or their website at biscuitsbaseball.milbstore.com/.
