Tiger Owns the Golf World Once Again

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards The return to glory-- Tiger Woods has now won his first major championship in 11 years, this time coming from the grandest stage of them all: the Masters. The final day of the Masters was forced to be pushed up due to inclement weather in the Augusta area, with a new tee-off time at 7:30 a.m. CT. At two strokes behind the leader, Francesco Molinari, Tiger Woods found himself in a comfortable position to take over the lead. He did just that, surpassing Molinari and taking over the sole possession of first place with a score of…

Underdogs Steal Limelight in NBA Playoffs

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards Coming down the stretch in late March and early April, it seemed like we were going to get less NBA matchups for the 2018-19 season. The narrative for the West was that the Golden State Warriors were going to coast until the finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder would find their footing and win their series easily, and the Denver Nuggets would prove everyone wrong and uphold their second seed status. In the east, that narrative was that the Raptors would finally break their playoff curse because of the acquisition of Khawi Leonard this past offseason, and that…

Top 5 in 2019 NFL Draft

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards The 2019 NFL draft has really garnered attention of late as it is leaked that the Arizona Cardinals may pick Quarterback Kyler Murray as the first pick. The question, “Is Kyler Murray talented?" is null and void. Anyone with a basic knowledge of football can tell that he is extremely talented on the field. The question, rather, is "Does he have the intangibles to be successful in the NFL?" The answer is much more difficult than anything he saw on a college football field. Ultimately, it seems as if the Cardinals will choose Murray as number one…

Best Suited to Win 2019 Super Bowl?

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards We are still four and half months away from the start of the NFL season and people are already wondering who is going to win the Super Bowl. We’ll look no further, and we’ll take a look at who might just be the favorites to win it all again this year. I think that there are four legitimate candidates. The first being, you guessed it, the New England Patriots. New England has yet to have a bad season under Belichick, and until they prove us all wrong and have a terrible season, it only makes logical sense…

What’s Wrong With the Warriors?

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards There’s something seriously wrong with the Golden State Warriors. Dating back to the beginning of this season, the Warriors have seemed to play their most lackluster, uninspired basketball since the acquisition of Kevin Durant. Still, being the one seed on the west does not hurt. They will have home court advantage all the way through the playoffs unless they play the Bucks or Raptors in the finals. All this being said, the Warriors just blew a 31 point lead on Monday night to a Clippers team that had no business competing with the two-time champions. “The mood’s…

2019 A-Day in Bryant-Denny

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards Few things in this world are certain, but this is: Tua Tagovailoa will be the starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide in 2019. After being shell shocked in Santa Clara for the 2018-19 national title game, Tua and the Crimson Tide look to retool their offense and defense and get back to a more traditional style of play for the 2019 season. During the A-day game on Saturday, Tua completed 19 of 37 attempts for 265 with a TD and INT. For some, it was a lackluster performance. For others, such as Nick Saban, Tua’s performance was…

NFL Prime-Time: The Browns

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards The NFL schedule was released yesterday, and surprisingly enough, the Cleveland Browns were given four prime-time games for the upcoming season. The Browns have the fewest amount of Prime-time games over the past 10 season. During that span, the franchise has accumulated an NFL-worst 41-118-1 record. However, the team finished the 2018 season by winning five out of their last seven games. Most of this success is attributed to Baker Mayfield, who has made the Browns a household, fun-to-watch team again. Even more so, the team has one of the best defenses in the league, ranking in…

2019 College Football Playoff Scenarios

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards In case you forgot, Alabama and Clemson have played each other in the past three college football playoffs. Not much is going to stop that from happening again this year. According to ESPN’s playoff simulator, Clemson has an 83 percent chance to reach the playoff for the fourth straight year. Meanwhile, Alabama has a 71 percent chance to do the same thing. Did I mention that both teams return nearly their entire offense and retool each defense respectively with five-star talent? I would have to say that this predictor seems pretty accurate. For the 2019 season, Clemson’s…

Thunderstruck

Sports

BY: Andrew Edwards The Oklahoma City Thunder now find themselves down 2-0 to the Portland Trail Blazers after losing 114-94 on Tuesday night. Capped off by an extremely poor shooting performance by Russell Westbrook, the Thunder will now have their backs against the wall in a must game in OKC on Friday night. How did the Thunder get to this point? Once predicted to be the best shot to defeat the Warriors in a potential western conference finals matchup, the Thunder have now own a 13-15 record since the All-Star break. Previous to that, the Thunder were the third seed…

News, Sports, University

As February comes to a close, the Warhawks softball team sits at a 5-2 record. Starting the season off with not only a win, but a 9-0 shutout against the University of Mobile in the first tournament of the season was definitely the start the Warhawks wanted to get. The Warhawks finished the Gulf Coast invitational tournament with a 3-1 record, falling only to the University of North Georgia with a nail biting 5-4 score. In their second tournament of the season, the GSC Opening Weekend Festival, the Warhawks came out on top again with a 2-1 record. While the…

Campus, News, Opinion, Sports, University

The holidays are right around the corner, and now is the time for giving. Students in the AUM Athletics program have shown their commitment to making a difference in the community all year, but especially during the most wonderful time of the year. They have partnered with the Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office to collect donations for a toy drive, with the Ceil Championship Holiday Gift Drive to deliver gifts to nursing home residents, and with the American Red Cross to host two major blood drives. Each individual team also chooses a local organization to volunteer with. This year, teams have…
