Behind the Screen at Alabama News Network

Behind the Screen at Alabama News Network

In April, students in Larry Moore’s Video Production course had the opportunity to take a tour of Alabama News Network with weather reporter Ryan Stinnett as our tour guide. The tour started with Ryan explaining the different channels that the station works for, ABC and CBS, and how the work shifts, which are not your typical first, second and third shift. The second shift starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. One thing that caught my attention was the hair and make-up room. I expected to see a lavish vanity area with multiple high-stool chairs, instead it was…

A Look at the Past Year in Student Government Association

A Look at the Past Year in Student Government Association

As we get closer to Student Government Association elections once again, I have found myself pondering this past year. I can truly say it is a privilege to have served as President with such a great group of Senators and other officers. A once hesitant candidate became a grateful person that is delighted to have committed to this organization. As I suspect it is for every outgoing President in any SGA, it is easy to look back on the year and notice all of the shortcomings. There is a long list of things I wanted to accomplish but failed to…

Veterans Week

Veterans Week

If you happen to be on campus and notice many American flags on the Quad understand that they aren’t there just as a show of patriotism. Twenty American flags will be placed on campus in November as a symbol for the 20 veterans who commit suicide every day. Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, and AUM is going to honor the many we have on campus.  The Student Veterans Association will be having a “Veterans Week,” which will kick off with an “AUM Supports our Veterans Day” on  Nov. 9 and 10. White Cane Day

White Cane Day

One of the earliest lessons we learn in life is “The Golden Rule”. Treat others the way you want to be treated. As a child, this lesson is simple. As an adult, while the concept is the same, it tends to be harder to execute. At times we’re not sure how people want to be treated. People who are different tend to make us uncomfortable, therefore we shy away from them. Why is that? (more…)

Battle of the Bands

Lip syncing has become an enormously popular form of entertainment over the past decade. Television shows such as “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Saturday Night Live” are known to include hilarious lip-syncing skits. There is even a show dedicated solely to lip syncing, appropriately called “Lip Sync Battle,” where celebrities lip sing and dance to well-known songs. Many high schools and colleges have put together lip sync events, including Prattville High School and Huntingdon College. Now, AUM is on the map too! (more…)

Get Your Family Involved with AUM Family Connection

The main message of Family Connection to AUM families is that they play a vital role in their student’s college career. (more…)

Being Privileged: Is it a Terrible Thing?

Being Privileged: Is it a Terrible Thing?

With all that occurs in a student’s life, it is understandable that some components of campus life may be missed. Once a month, in the Landing at the Nest, students and faculty meet and openly and safely discuss topics affecting them today. With signs placed all across campus, the blunt, yet caring, nature of Hot Topics Café always keeps me coming back for more. On Feb. 10, students and faculty joined together to “check [their] privilege.” (more…)

Another Important Vote to Cast

As the 2016 presidential elections take place this year, many AUM students will be flexing their constitutional rights and vote for the first time.
