Behind the Screen at Alabama News Network

In April, students in Larry Moore’s Video Production course had the opportunity to take a tour of Alabama News Network with weather reporter Ryan Stinnett as our tour guide. The tour started with Ryan explaining the different channels that the station works for, ABC and CBS, and how the work shifts, which are not your typical first, second and third shift. The second shift starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. One thing that caught my attention was the hair and make-up room. ZTA Hosts Male Pageant Tonight

Zeta Tau Alpha will be hosting its second annual Big Man on Campus on April 20. Big Man on Campus is described by Zeta Tau Alpha Philanthropy Co-Chairman, Allison Wetherill, as “a male pageant that Zeta Tau Alpha uses to not only raise money for our philanthropy, but also creates an opportunity for the campus to come together for a great cause.” All proceeds from this event will go to support Zeta Tau Alpha’s Philanthropy, Think Pink in support of Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Wedding Congratulations for Two Former Webmasters

The AUMnibus would like to extend warm wishes to AUM alumni Sara "Nikki" Estes and Matthew Estes, who were married on Saturday, April 1 in Eclectic, Alabama. Both Nikki and Matthew served as webmasters for the AUMnibus while they were completing their degrees in communications. Without them, our website would not exist as it is today.

Alpha Gamma Delta’s Lip Jam

Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority will host its third annual Lip Jam on April 21. Lip Jam is a lip sync and dance competition where teams of five to fifteen people will people battle it out for a prize. Every spring your Student Government Association welcomes new faces to its council. This team represents the AUM student body in educational programming on campus as well as general programming for students. Veterans Week

If you happen to be on campus and notice many American flags on the Quad understand that they aren’t there just as a show of patriotism. Twenty American flags will be placed on campus in November as a symbol for the 20 veterans who commit suicide every day. Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, and AUM is going to honor the many we have on campus. Battle of the Bands

Lip syncing has become an enormously popular form of entertainment over the past decade. Television shows such as “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Saturday Night Live” are known to include hilarious lip-syncing skits. There is even a show dedicated solely to lip syncing, appropriately called “Lip Sync Battle,” where celebrities lip sing and dance to well-known songs. Many high schools and colleges have put together lip sync events, including Prattville High School and Huntingdon College. Now, AUM is on the map too! (more…)

Get Your Family Involved with AUM Family Connection

The Arcade, So Far

The AUM Computer Science Club has officially received $1,000 in funding from SGA to construct and install the retro arcade station in Warhawk Alley. Construction is expected to begin next week. The arcade is expected to be operational by August. The announcement for funding was delayed, for a number of weeks, but initial funds have been granted, and the project is in motion. Currently, the Computer Science Club is getting materials gathered and assigning duties for the construction of the arcade system. (more…)

As the 2016 presidential elections take place this year, many AUM students will be flexing their constitutional rights and vote for the first time. The debates, platforms and controversy surrounding the presidential candidates generate a lot of buzz and excitement and the election is the topic of conversations across campus. Do you sometimes feel alone and need someone to understand what you are going through? Is the weight of the world holding you down? There is no need to feel alone when dealing with stress, depression or anxiety. The AUM Counseling Center will begin Mindfulness Group every Friday starting Jan. 29. Dealing with the stress of the semester can be overwhelming and impossible to take on without interaction from other peers. Group counseling will allow you to relieve stress and participate in activities that will help your mental health. There will be seven activities included in the meetings. (more…)
