Walker's platform -- "Let's Talk Trash" -- focuses on building awareness of the three Rs -- reduction, reuse, and recycling -- as a means of reducing environmental impact. The program, sponsored by AUM's College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, SAGE Club, AUM E.C.O., AUM Honors Program, and AUM Tri-Beta. This event will also include a free lunch for attendees. Earth Day Safari at the Montgomery Zoo

This event will teach the importance of conservation, preservation, and recycling. There will be learning experiences from sponsors and zookeepers, as well as a scavenger hunt. Sponsors such as the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art will demonstrate recycling, air pollution, and easy craft-making to help save the Earth from pollutants. The main event will consist of a book signing Saturday at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel Convention Center with over 80 authors, including some from our very own home state. M.A.N.E. is a horseback riding organization that provides River Region children, adults, and veterans with therapeutic benefits. These issues face economically disadvantaged and minority citizens in rural Alabama communities. Flowers' lecture entitled "Environmental Justice--What Are We Leaving Our Children?" begins at 7 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 112 and is free to the public. The 16 finalists come from a pool of over 140 official applications that were submitted this year by hard-working teachers across the state.
