Be Stylish, Save Money

Be Stylish, Save Money

BY: Daaiyah Latham  Finding stylish, affordable clothing can be hard sometimes. This article will give you steps and great places to shop while also keeping money in your pocket.   First things first: When it comes to being fashionable, sometimes you have to “shop” out of your comfort zone. Do not be afraid to shop in places that may be non-traditional for you. Growing up, a lot of people looked down on thrift stores. Thrift stores are one of the best places to shop. Not only does the thrift store have stylish pieces to put together, but if you have a…

Student Spotlight: Theatre AUM with Kate Saylor & Tony George

Student Spotlight: Theatre AUM with Kate Saylor & Tony George

BY: Allison Stewart As seniors in the AUM Theatre Department, Kate Saylor and Tony George know what it takes to succeed in college. They made it through the nerves of freshman year, the stress of sophomore year (or should I say continuous stress) and the excitement of junior year. Now, they are beginning the last chapter of their Warhawk story.  The fun thing about Kate and Tony is their friendship. They both graduated from Wetumpka High School in 2016 and have been friends for over a decade. Being able to go to college together has made a positive impact on…

AUM’s Athletic Department Develops Students for Future

BY: Randy Dunn  As AUM’s athletics season kicks off, the Athletic Department gives students the opportunity to gain confidence when it comes to their field study so once the opportunity presents itself, they will have experience and knowledge to take to their job of interest. I had the honor to interview Sports Information Director Mr. Matthew Pellegrin, and we discussed the importance of students getting the experience with AUM.   I asked Mr. Pellegrin a few questions and here were his responses. Q: “How does giving students this opportunity help them graduate with experience with their field?”  A: “We feel like…

Suicide Prevention

Suicide Prevention

BY: Caitlin Gallagher Did you know that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for all ages in the United States? Close to 800,000 people will commit every year—that equals to about 1 person every minute. For every suicide committed, another 20 attempts are made. That is 800,000 deaths that could have been prevented.  A number that big should shock you, and hopefully it motivates you to help reduce it. Suicides are preventable. Make sure your loved ones, or even strangers, know that you are there, you care and want to help. Caring and support does not just mean…

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

BY: Molly Gray Did you know that September 15 through October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month? There is a large chance that you did not. However, we need to remember that this is an opportunity to celebrate the Hispanic community for all the contributions they have made to the United States. According to Brannon Barragán, Spanish professor at Auburn University at Montgomery, Hispanic Heritage Month “shines a light on the social and cultural contributions that Latinos have made and continue to make, which ultimately makes us a stronger more unified nation.” As we see the importance of celebrating, it is…

The hurricane reached the Bahamas right after reaching Category 5 and tore through the archipelago for two days before subsiding to a Category 2 hurricane and hitting the eastern coast of Florida. AUM Volleyball Introduction

BY: Brandon Barker The third season of AUM’s volleyball team was officially kicked off this weekend. Big changes have happened for the program this year and it’s important to get off to a great start. The volleyball team won their first game of the season. There was a massive division switch for the Warhawks, a couple of coaching changes, and a bunch of new players added to the roster.  The Warhawks have recently been granted full NCAA Division 2 membership. This was a long process that started for the Warhawks a couple of years ago. AUM is one of four…

Never Forget 9/11

Never Forget 9/11

BY: Molly Gray Today marks the 18th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. As we go throughout our day, we will probably act as if it is any other day of school or work. It will seem like a normal day to us. However, it is not a normal day for some people-it is a day of sorrow. Therefore, we must remember what happened on this day 18 years ago.  It is possible that many of us do not remember when this day happened. I was four years old in 2001, and some of you may not have even been…

What is Panhellenic?

BY: Morgan Thayer You see them in front of Goodwyn Hall every day asking if you are interested in going through recruitment, but have you ever wondered what exactly they are talking about?  Recruitment is a process in which undergraduate women join a sorority. It is a procedure that includes a number of themed rounds in which potential new members learn about the things that make up a sorority.  We have three chapters on campus; Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta, and Zeta Tau Alpha. These chapters create a community built upon the leadership, involvement, benevolence, and high academic standards held…

Twenty Years Later

Twenty Years Later

BY: Caitlin Gallagher The year was 2005, and I was just coming into my seventh-grade school year. Dying to make a good impression, all I wanted was a pair of Clarks’ Wallabees. When I told my parents I HAD to have the shoes, they informed me that those particular shoes were in style when they were teenagers. There was no way we were talking about the same shoes. But we were. This is when I learned about the “20-Year Nostalgia Theory”.  Although the most prominent recurring trends are typically fashion, all trends make revivals. From music to decor, television shows…
