Auburn University at Montgomery men’s soccer team is now 3rd in the Gulf South Conference standings after beating University of Montevallo in a rematch on Tuesday. They now have a conference record of 4-0-2.

Montevallo is currently ranked eighth in the GSC standings and has a conference record of 3-3. AUM originally played Montevallo on Oct. 18. Montevallo was up 2-1 and just after halftime, one of the lights on AUM’s field cut out. Regulation requires the whole field to be properly lit for the entire duration of the game. After waiting about an hour, they decided to reschedule the game for Oct. 22.

Brazilian Junior, Lucas Batistela, scored with 38 seconds left in the match for a 1-0 win over Montevallo. AUM outshot Montevallo 19 to five. Seven of those shots were on target, while Montevallo only had one shot on goal the whole match. Both teams picked up 10 fouls during the game. AUM goalkeeper Alexander Kraus saved one shot, while Montevallo’s keeper saved six shots during the game. Montevallo had two corner kicks and AUM had four corner kicks throughout the game. AUM picked up three offside calls, while Montevallo only received one.

Batistela had two shots on goal throughout the game. Freshman Rasheed Bolaji took a shot and assisted the only goal of the game. French Junior Arnaud Baron had four shots, one of them being on goal. Brazilian Sophomore Renan Diniz also took four shots during the game.

The men’s team only has six more conference games before potentially playing in the GSC playoffs held in Pensacola, Fla. Since this is AUM’s first season being a complete member of the GSC, this would be a huge accomplishment for the team.
