MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Auburn University at Montgomery’s volleyball team fell short of their expectations last year, marred by injuries and scheduling conflicts; head coach Craig Case made it clear that last year’s team was hindered by things not in their control.
“We don’t have to worry about overworking people like we did last year,” said Case when asked about how the lack of depth hurt the team last year.
In addition to overcoming last year’s roster woes the Warhawks have another challenge in replacing their star player, Maya Thompson who became only the third player to be named first team all GSC for AUM. Thompson finished last season with 424 points and 348 kills last year to become the first player from AUM to be picked first-team all-region.
Case is hoping that some of the incoming freshmen and transfers can help replace some of that productivity that is missing from last year’s departures. Case feels good about his second year and is excited to see the team grow. He is especially excited about the incoming transfers, believing they are poised to make the biggest impact.

The 2025 Lady Warhawks (shown in group photo courtesy of AUM Athletics) have gotten off to a rocky start, losing their first out of conference game against Converse 0-3 (sets), and then going winless in the Reddie-Tiger Invitational in Arkansas last week.
On Sept. 19 The Lady Warhawks will play their first home game of the season against the Tuskegee Golden Tigers at 6 p.m in the AUM Athletics Complex.
