AUM Men’s Soccer Beats Georgia Southwestern

Auburn University at Montgomery’s men’s soccer team beat Georgia Southwestern State University 4-1. AUM men’s soccer is now on a two game winning streak after beating Florida Southern College 2-1 in Melbourne, Fla. last Sunday. The men’s team’s official record is now 2-3. 

The first goal came from the 20th minute of the match — Arnaud Baron sent a cross in to Phillip Spickenbaum, and he headed it into the back of the net. Only 38 seconds later, Thomas Carlile scored from a pass delivered from Spickenbaum. In the 26th minute, Carlile scored again to put the team up 3-0. Only a minute later, Georgia Southwestern scored their only goal of the match. The final goal came from Alexis Arriaga, who scores from a penalty kick, ending the game with a 4-1 win. 

Carlile scored two goals and also picked up an assist for the Warhawks. Overall, he had three total shots, with two of them being on goal. Spickenbaum had a total of four shots: two on goal, a goal, and an assist. Arnaud Baron picked up his first assist of the season, while Arriaga scored his first goal of the season. Goalkeeper Alexander Kraus had three saves in the game. Jabari Broussard and Hayes Colvin made their first appearance of the season in this match. In the 87th minute of the match, Elias Hanna picked up a yellow card.

Overall, AUM shot 14 times, while Georgia Southwestern shot 11 times throughout the game. AUM put a total of six shots on goal, while Georgia Southwestern put up four. The Warhawks tallied up six fouls for the night, while Georgia Southwestern picked up nine. 

AUM’s men’s team is currently ranked nine out of 12 teams in the conference before conference play begins. The Warhawks were picked to finish eighth in the conference, which could boost them to conference playoffs.
