Concussion Protocols

By: Van Cathcart III PICTURE CREDITS: Bleacher Report Recently the National Football League (NFL) has fallen under major scrutiny for player safety. Head trauma is something that has been in conversation and associated with the sport for many years and is getting to the point where not much can be done but dissolve the sport altogether. Injuries are a part of any sport, especially when playing at the level that professional athletes do. However, head and neck injuries are something more severe than anything else that could happen. These injuries can have several side effects including paralyzing players and even death. Concussion protocols and new rules are being implemented to better protect players better than before. These head injuries are something rather new and have been ad...

Aaron Judge sets MLB record

By: Van Cathcart III PICTURE CREDITS: FOX Sports Many said that it might never be done, and some say that it still hasn’t been done. The Major League Baseball home run record is something that is nothing short of controversial, but no matter your opinion on the subject what Aaron Judge has done this year for the New York Yankees (NYY) deserves a round of applause. If you don’t know, Aaron Judge is a 6’7 280 lb. outfielder for the Yankees. Drafted in the 31st round of the 2010 MLB draft, it took Judge seven years to establish himself in the major leagues, once he did the rest had been history. Bursting onto the scene during the 2017 season, Judge hammered 52 home runs in his official rookie season which was a league-leading statistic. In his rookie year, Judge also led the MLB i...

Black Student Union: Safe Spaces on Campus

By: Sierra Hall AUM Black student union AUM is home to a unique student-focused campus, where all activities are made to mind the development of students' success in leadership and education. A major part of the collegiate experience that AUM offers is the ability for students to be involved in and create clubs based on their heritage, interests and pre-professional development. The Black Student Union, known on campus as BSU, is one of the most recent additions to AUM’s list of student clubs and organizations. The first Black Student Union was created in 1966 at San Francisco State University and other colleges adopted the club shortly after. AUM’S BSU returned to campus in Spring 2022, with more specific goals and objectives. BSU’s current president, Mariah Webster, spoke to me ab...

Pictured (from left to right): Chris Offutt, Matthew Linna, Powell Franklin and Ethan Linna Music is a part of every college student’s life, but for Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) freshmen Matthew and Ethan Linna, it’s much more than that. The twin brothers are both members of a Millbrook-based alt-rock/grunge band called “13 Seconds of Silence,” and although only a year old, the band is making waves across the River Region. “Our sound is very unique,” said Ethan Linna, bass guitarist and backup vocalist. “Many of our guitar parts are inspired by Kurt Cobain and “Nirvana” and we sing a lot of harmonies that are similar to “Alice in Chains. We also use the bass to play some solos, kind of like “Metallica” ...

New York flavor, Southern hospitality; A review of Chappy’s Deli

By: Dalton Kimbro Chappy’s Deli at Peppertree Big sandwiches, savory soups and fresh salads are all things you think of when you think of a traditional New York deli. These tasty foods may all seem far away, but they are a lot closer than you think. Chappy’s Deli has been serving deli foods to Montgomery and local areas since 1989, offering New York flavor with Southern hospitality. Two friends and I visited the Peppertree location, located less than 10 minutes from campus, on Monday night. The three of us were welcomed and immediately seated. The restaurant was covered in small, white, subway tiles, li...
