AUM Homecoming Setting the Tone for 2022

BY: Chris Porter Between Feb. 4-12, 2022, Auburn University at Montgomery will be hosting its annual homecoming. During this time, former students return to celebrate the existence of AUM and to reconnect with the student body, faculty and staff. This is a relief, as this will be AUM’s first homecoming since 2020, right before the start of COVID-19. Many different events and activities are taking place as part of the homecoming tradition, including a celebration of Black History Month to honor the contributions of African-Americans to history.  To get more thoughts on homecoming, I sat down with SGA president Keenan Carter. Here is what he had to say: “Homecoming is one of my all-time favorite campus events. It’s a week full of fun events, fellowship with fellow peers, faculty,...

Campus Activities Board to host tent party

BY: Jayla Brown Homecoming is officially back at AUM, and so is the tent party we all love. On February 10, 2022, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) is bringing back the infamous Tent Party: Part 2. If you missed the first one, you do not want to miss this one. The party is from 10 p.m. to midnight. It will be held behind the library tower in the grass area. The party will feature one of our favorites, DJ Red. This event is open to AUM students only. CAB asks that every student bring their student ID for entry. The tent party is free, and all you have to bring is your dance moves.  The last party was held right before COVID-19 shut down the United States in Spring 2020. The campus is buzzing with high anticipation. This party is sure to be a hit, so don’t be late.

Victory on the Horizon

BY: Alecia Hicks Basketball season is a time for popcorn, points, and victories. The AUM Men’s Basketball team started their journey into the season back in November with their first game beginning with UAB. Since then, they have been taking on many challenging teams as they fight for a position this season. This season has proven to have been an uphill battle for the Warhawks, but the crowd and the players have not given up yet. The overall score so far is 8-13, with hopefully more wins in the future.  Tonight’s win against Mississippi College left both fans and players with much excitement. The game was very close, with both teams putting in a lot of effort. The Warhawks left the court with 68 points against Mississippi, who were only able to score 60. Jeremiah Bozeman, the senior...

AUM’s baseball team preps to play on February 1

BY: Alex R. Hope you have your bats ready to swing into the new baseball season! With the start of the season around the corner, here are some things you need to know. In the 2021 season, the team finished with an 18-23 record. In Gulf South Conference (GSC) play, they recorded a 16-20 record. In one of the conference wins, the Warhawks were able to come on top with an astonishing 23-3 win over the University of Montevallo. The team was able to continue with post-season play but lost two games against Lee University (Tenn.) and Valdosta State University, which ended their run. The team batted an average of .278 with an on-base plus slugging percentage of .742. AUM did a good job with getting on base, as their slugging percentage was .370. There is a player that you should keep...

5 Ways to Celebrate Black History Month This Year

BY: Jayla Brown February is here! Yes, it means it is the month of love, but it also means it is officially Black History Month. What used to be known as Negro History Week is now a whole month dedicated to honoring and celebrating Black people and our history— remembering the past and looking toward the future. February is a month of celebrating trailblazers such as Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first Black professional nurse, and Martin Luther King Jr., minister and civil-rights activist, along with many other historical figures.  Searching for a way to celebrate Black History Month this year? Here are a few ideas! Visit a museum. Visiting museums is a great way to show honor to the many amazing contributions of Black people to American history. Montgomery has many museums like ...

Warhawks Give it Their Best Shot Through the Season

BY: Kenyetta Stephens Tough times don’t last— tough people do. Auburn University of Montgomery's Women’s Basketball team is struggling through the season. The team holds a record of 6-10 for the 2021- 2022 season so far. The season started off tremendously, until the fourth game. There are 16 players on the team, with two being graduating students and three of them being seniors. The team is still young, and they have tons of fundamentals to develop. Although the season has been a little shaky, the team still has a chance to turn it around. While there are 11 games remaining, a better season is possible.  The Warhawks recently won 86-72; that’s a way to recover after four losses. Catlin Carter led the team with 22 points. Carter has been averaging 14 points a game. Her best game was...
