AUM Cross Country

BY: Allison Stewart Beep… beep… beep… It is 7 a.m. and your alarm clock goes off. You wake up and get ready. For the next two and a half hours, you will be running and working out.  Oh, and you do this seven days a week.  This is how each day begins for AUM’s cross country team. Dedication does not sleep in for these runners. Rather, it starts their day bright and early.  Head Coach Ryan Thompson is excited for what the new season has in store. As the coach, Thompson understands the pressures and rewards of pushing his team. Preparation is key when it comes to gaining the best results. Thompson strategically plans each practice, sometimes with detailed goals for his runners. On the weekends, the team travels to different practice locations to keep their r...

What is Panhellenic?

BY: Morgan Thayer You see them in front of Goodwyn Hall every day asking if you are interested in going through recruitment, but have you ever wondered what exactly they are talking about?  Recruitment is a process in which undergraduate women join a sorority. It is a procedure that includes a number of themed rounds in which potential new members learn about the things that make up a sorority.  We have three chapters on campus; Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta, and Zeta Tau Alpha. These chapters create a community built upon the leadership, involvement, benevolence, and high academic standards held by the chapter members.  This association is made up of a diverse group of young women, each with a passion reaching far beyond this organization alone. Each chapter o...

Twenty Years Later

BY: Caitlin Gallagher The year was 2005, and I was just coming into my seventh-grade school year. Dying to make a good impression, all I wanted was a pair of Clarks’ Wallabees. When I told my parents I HAD to have the shoes, they informed me that those particular shoes were in style when they were teenagers. There was no way we were talking about the same shoes. But we were. This is when I learned about the “20-Year Nostalgia Theory”.  Although the most prominent recurring trends are typically fashion, all trends make revivals. From music to decor, television shows and even scents, we are constantly surrounded by nostalgia from eras past. It’s no secret that the last few years have been a tribute to the 90’s. Kurt Cobain, Doc Martens, Cucumber Melon and Lisa Frank‒ these were t...

Talons Dance Team

BY: Kaleria Jackson The AUM Talons have twirled their way on to our campus. The Talons Dance Team has been active on Auburn University at Montgomery’s campus for the past four years. The Talons’ dance style has a combination of jazz, hip-hop, majorette, and lyrical dancing. With many of the girls on the team acquiring different skills and styles, they plan on bringing something new and creative to AUM to promote school spirit. Raven Tolbert, an executive member of the Talons, says their goal is to get the AUM community engaged through the art of dance. The Talons will be performing at the Halloween party (hosted by CAB) on October 31 and at the Apollo (hosted by Housing) on October 18. Tryouts for the Talons are held every semester. The next tryout will be held Spring 2020. If ...

Hot Girl Semester

BY: Kaleria Jackson The theme for Summer 2019 was “Hot Girl Summer”. This summer’s theme came from up and coming rap artist, Megan Thee Stallion. Megan Pete, better known as Megan Thee Stallion, came up with this phrase to encourage women to be confident in themselves while looking good and having fun. This summer was filled with beautiful women who expressed themselves freely by showing their confidence. Along with trying to promote confidence, Megan’s music has given women the right type of confidence.  As summer comes to an end, the trend does not seem to be ending. With the fall season beginning, the new theme is “Hot Girl Semester”. Megan is a third-year college student at Texas Southern University, and she is trying to promote education. While Megan is getting her deg...
