Survey or Spam?

By: Emma Keith

Have you been receiving countless emails about a survey? Do you keep deleting spam emails and sending them to the trash? While that normally is the case Auburn University Montgomery (AUM)  has been sending out emails recently about the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Survey (SSI) , a survey in which students are asked questions about their satisfaction with student services. Students can click the link in their email, answer a few questions and leave their honest responses on how the school is doing in serving students all while remaining anonymous. In the email, the title reads “We want your feedback” with the individualized student’s name and the email gives this information The SSI helps us understand what your priorities are, and it aids in determining how satisfied you are with how AUM is providing student services.

Survey results are confidential and will guide decisions that will benefit AUM students. With a link. While interviewing one of AUM’s students on campus the student replied, “I honestly did not even know that was a thing, but now that I do I am going to go find it in my email and write my concern”. After a few more conversations with students most gave a generalized statement of “I thought it was spam” “I deleted it ” and “I never even opened the email” while a lot of times students do receive spam mail this survey is directly benefiting them.

David Koda a research analyst at AUM Office of Institutional Effectiveness oversees the survey and is who all questions are run through. Not only is this survey helpful to students but it also helps AUM plan for curriculum changes, degree requirements and so much more. Surveys help enhance the efficiency of a course and help to show how teachers are doing and if changes need to be made. Now who is Noel-Levitz and why does he want us to take his survey?
