Status of Alabama Haunted Houses

In order to stop the spread of COVID-19, the Center for Disease Control recently recommended that people not participate in any close contact Halloween events this year. Instead, the CDC recommended that people participate in “low-risk activities” such as pumpkin carving, virtual Halloween parties, costume contests and scavenger hunts. The CDC also cautions anyone from participating in traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating and indoor haunted houses

As such, the Alabama haunted house attractions have been scrambling to find innovative ways to keep their doors open. Alabama has seen the cancellation of Birmingham’s Sloss Fright Furnace haunted houses. Ranked as one of the scariest haunted houses in the Southeast, Sloss Fright Furnace was informed by health department officials that they would not be able to operate safely during the pandemic and would need to be shut down. 

Other Alabama haunted house attractions, however, are still in operation and will be able to provide their patrons with all the thrills and excitement of a haunted house while adhering to all safety guidelines. The following Alabama haunted house attractions are open for business: 

Montgomery Humane Society’s Annual Haunted House

  • Dates of operation: October 18, 19, 25, 26 and 31
  • Location: 1150 John Overton Drive, Montgomery, AL, 36110
  • Price of admission: $15
  • Hours of operation: 7 p.m. – midnight (closes at 10 p.m. on Halloween)

The Haunted Chicken House

  • Dates of operation: September 25 and 26, October 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, 31
  • Location: 7522 AL-1, Heflin, AL 36264
  • Price of admission: 1 attraction- $15, 2 attractions- $25, 3 attractions- $40

Nightmare at 3008

  • Dates of operation: September 25, 26, 27 October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31
  • Location: 1731 Decatur Hwy, Fultondale, AL 35068
  • Price of admission: $25 (a portion of the overall profits will go to Children’s of Alabama Childhood Cancer Research) 
  • Hours of operation: Open from 7:30 p.m. and closed after all guests have gone through the haunted house 

Powell Vegas Slaughterhouse

  • Dates of operation: September 25, 26 and October 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, 31
  • Location: 592 Sam Ellis Drive NW, Rainsville, AL
  • Price of admission: $10 per person
  • Hours of operation: 7 p.m. – midnight
