As we all know, COVID-19 is getting worse before it gets better. Businesses are in desperate times and the individuals who own the businesses are trying their best to keep their heads above water. I am pro-vaccination and masks, but I also believe in your rights. If someone is not comfortable with masks or vaccination, it shouldn’t keep that individual from running his or her business. In New York City, a group of restaurant owners plans on suing Mayor Bill de Blasio and the entire city over the vaccine mandate. The City announced a rule requiring people to show proof that they are vaccinated before doing the following in the city: dining indoors, visiting a fitness center, or going to any entertainment venue. This also goes for employees who choose to work for restaurants and venues. This will start being strictly enforced on September 13, 2021.
Workers are saying that the vaccine mandate is doing nothing but keeping the people who wish to work from working. The vaccine mandate is infringing on their freedom. Personally, I do agree with this. I feel as if getting vaccinated should be a choice that the individual should make on their own; it shouldn’t be forced. I feel if people see that they can start here forcing the vaccine, more could be forced, such as abortions and other vaccines. In situations like this, freedom to do as you please safely should be a top priority. I do believe the vaccines help, but you still could catch COVID-19, so masks should be the only thing that should be mandatory in my opinion.
New York City is not the only city pressing this vaccination mandate; San Francisco is also on the same page.
