Red Bike Promo

By: Mason Lawrence

The Auburn University of Montgomery Theatre Department is getting ready to put on
their first show of the semester. October 5th is opening night for Red Bike by Caridad Svich.
Val Winkleman is directing the show and has directed many plays put on in the AUM theatre.
Last year she directed The Revolutionists and has overseen wardrobe, stage design and every
other facet of theatre for many other AUM productions . Red Bike is a story about growing up
in a small town and finding what your place in the world is. Figuring out whether to leave the
town or stay there like so many others. AUM theatre professor, Neil David Seibel, has this to
say when asked why people should come see the play, “ Red Bike is a stream of conscious
ride between dreams and nightmares taken by an 11 year old child through a hometown (like
Montgomery Alabama) experiencing simultaneous decay and a change of identity – just like
Montgomery, Alabama.” A coming of age story in a small town always makes for a good story.
There are two weekends you can go and see the Red Bike. October fifth through the seventh
and October twelfth through the fourteenth at 7:30 p.m. in the theatre which is located in the
Taylor Center. There is a show October fifteenth as well, and it is a matinée and you can catch
that showing at 2 p.m.. It is free to attend for staff, faculty, and students with an AUM Warhawk
card and is $10 general admission, but if you have a senior citizen or military member it will be
$5. Just remember that there is no for or drink allowed in the theatre and make sure to silence
your cell phone. Doors will close at 7:30 p.m. sharp, so make sure to get there early. AUM
Theatre always puts on enjoyable shows with good set design and even better acting. They put
so much work into these shows, so you should do your part and grab a seat in the audience,
kick back, and enjoy.
