One of the winners of the Broadcast Education Association’s Multimedia Arts Festival is one of our very own, Macio Malone. Malone, 24, is a senior communications major from Opelika, Ala.
The Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts is an international digital media and broadcast competition for faculty and students. According to their website, over 300 schools have students who participate and they receive 1,450 entries annually from around the country. Students can submit any form of media and/or broadcasting that was created for a media class.
Malone’s submission was created for his Digital Audio Production class in Spring 2021 for Professor Katherine Irwin. Malone states, “What encouraged me to enter the festival was Mrs. Irwin. She talked to me before or after class one day and gave me the rundown of the festival. Given my background as a semi-professional music artist and the song I turned in for an assignment, she pretty much said this was right up my alley. Plus, there was nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I figured why not.”
Malone’s passion for music began when he was around seven or eight. He recalls, “I saw my dad start to produce music in our apartment with local artists.” At 17-years-old, Malone created his first song “Empty Space”. This is where he remembers passionately beginning to pursue his music career. Fast forward to 2022 and he is an experienced artist with an award under his belt.
If you’re looking to support your fellow Warhawk, Malone’s music is available on any music platform. His submission for the contest has not been officially released but should be released soon. In the meantime, be sure to follow him on social media.
