Does AUM Need New Clubs?

BY: Ambria Davis

There are over 50 organizations and clubs on this campus, however some AUM students feel there should be more organizations and clubs that help the community more.

Being in a club or organization helps students make new friends and work as a team to achieve goals and most of all, have fun. With all the organizations and clubs on campus, many of AUM’s students believe there should be a few new clubs added to the list. This could be two potential new clubs such as a mentoring program for middle and high school students and moral welfare activities. These potential new clubs could benefit students, faculty, and the community.

Kelsey Merriweather, Junior, mentioned, “there could be a mentoring program for middle and high school students. During the school year, AUM students could mentor local middle and high school students about the future, life experiences, volunteer work, and reading programs. This program would only be mentoring the fifth through 12th graders.” Both AUM and grade school students could work together and raise money through donations, so that the middle and high school students could win valuable prizes, such as gift cards, day trips, or free tickets to theme parks.

Having moral welfare activities, as an organization, could bring students and faculty more in touch with exercise and being in close contact with nature. There could be walking and hiking through Alabama’s gorgeous trails, canoeing, and kayaking on the lakes and rivers of the region, and horseback riding on trails. This could be a group consisting of 9 to 15 or more participants in each monthly or bi-weekly activity.

Do these two new club ideas seem interesting to you? Do you see a club or organization that needs to be on campus? If so, contact the Student Involvement and Leadership Programs Director, Joel Hughes.
